Using the library for research: In groups of three or four, use the library’s Quicksearch facility to find one article each on student motivation, student engagement and student resilience. Discuss the articles in your group. We will have a class discussion on the results from the groups. . Exploring use of collaborative software tools in the workplace: In groups of three or four, use the library’s Quicksearch facility to locate an article that describes how a company or organisation is using collaborative software tools in its operation. Write a one-paragraph abstract of the article.

Time management Time Budgeting Regardless of how much you want to, you cannot “make time”. There are only 24 hours in a day – just 168 hours in a week. In the lecture we discussed time budgets. Open the Time Budget spreadsheet on Moodle and save a copy. You will use this to make a time budget for the week. List all of the things that you must do (ie attend classes, do homework, work, etc) and the things you would like to do (go out, watch TV, chat with friends, etc). Remember that as a full time student you are expected to spend between 10 to 15 hours per week on each course you are enrolled in for study, preparation and assignment work (that includes lecture, lab and tutorial time). There are conditions that you must adhere to: 1. You must have a continuous block of 8 hours for sleep EVERY day; 2. You must block out the times for ALL your classes; 3. You must include the time it takes to move from one task to the next (ie set up or travel time). Prepare a timetable for the semester. Using the information in your time budget, make an overall plan for the semester. You should include assignment release and due dates as well as tests, presentations and personal commitments (ie family birthdays, holidays, etc). The overall plan will show you if things clash or if you will have a very busy time and allow you to plan ahead and avoid last minute panic.

Assessment 1) The majority of the assessment for this course will be done as a group. Time will be providing during the laboratory class to work on your assignments and to hold team meetings. It is important that each team member participates and contributes to the assessment tasks.
