INTRODUCTION TO DATA COMMUNICATION AND NETWORKING (ITT400) GROUP PROJECT NETWORK MONITORING SOFTWARE / TOOLS Total 100 Marks: 25% The Objectives: After completing this project, you should be able to:  Understand the concept of network monitoring  Apply the knowledge and skills in network monitoring activities The Scenario: Network monitoring is a frequently used IT term. Network monitoring refers to the practice of overseeing the operation of a computer network using specialized management software tools. Network monitoring systems are used to ensure availability and overall performance of computers (hosts) and network services. They let admins monitor access, routers, slow or failing components, firewalls, core switches, client systems and server performance among other network data. Network monitoring systems are typically employed on large scale corporate and university IT networks. The process of network monitoring and management is simplified and automated with the help of network monitoring software or network monitoring tools. Your organization is planning to implement network monitoring software or network monitoring tools. The Instructions: Your assignment is to write a paperwork to propose a network monitoring software or network monitoring tool to be implemented in your organization. Form a group which comprise of the maximum of 5 (five) students, and choose 1 (one) type of network monitoring software or network monitoring tools. The Tasks Your paperwork must comprise of the followings: 1. Explanation on the network monitoring software or network monitoring tool. 2. Discussion on the importance of the network monitoring software or network monitoring tool to the organization. 3. The working mechanism of the selected network monitoring software or network monitoring tool. 4. The advantages and disadvantages of the selected network monitoring software or network monitoring tool. 5. Example(s) of the implementation. 6. The screenshot of the selected network monitoring software or network monitoring tool.

The Presentation Your presentation must comprise the followings: 1. All contents from ‘The Tasks’ 2. Demonstration on how to use the selected network monitoring software/tool. Project Evaluation (100 Marks) 1. Group assignment presentation – 50 Marks: 10% On week 13 (4th July 2021 – 8th July 2021), group members are expected to present their work during tutorial class using appropriate presentation tools and demonstration. 2. Group assignment report – 50 Marks: 15% The report is due on week 12 (3rd July 201) before 11.59pm. You must submit a report softcopy (cover page + content + evaluation form) to the lecturer through Microsoft Team.
