Description

Ethical Decision-Making Name: Jaden Denham Course: Christian Worldview Date: 12/5/21 Instructor: Kevin Hartley For questions 2-6, chose from the "Decision-Making Cases" document in the topic Resources. Use critical thinking as well as support from the topic Resources to answer the following prompts. 1. Why do Christians believe that morality is absolute and objective, rather than relative and subjective? If morality is objective, where do Christians get their moral standard? Cite Chapter 7 of The Beginning of Wisdom textbook and/or topic overview. Include the resources you use on a reference page at the end of this document. Your answer in 75-100 words: Christians believe that morality is absolute and objective because there are certain rules and regulations that God speaks on for what he considers justifiable or unacceptable. The LORD’s commandments is a good example of God’s rule’s for life but there are many verses in the Gospel that go more in depth on this subject. In scripture it states, “But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He Himself is kind to ungrateful and evil men. Be merciful, just as your father is merciful” (Luke 6:27-28 NIV) This explains that those who follow in God’s leadership will develop good morals, because morals and objective truths do not exists without God.

2. Use the case you chose from the "Decision-Making Cases" document to answer the following questions to build the Christian ethical response. Use logical reasoning (general revelation). Cite Bible passages (special revelation), The Beginning of Wisdom textbook, and/or the topic overview. Include the resources you use on a reference page at the end of this document. a. Which case did you choose? Decisions of Life and Death b. In Chapter 2 of The Beginning of Wisdom textbook and the Topic 1 Overview, the elements of a worldview (ultimate reality, nature of the universe, humanity, knowledge, ethics, purpose) are presented. In the case you chose, which © 2021. Grand Canyon University. All Rights Reserved.

worldview element is going to be the biggest factor for determining right and wrong in the case you chose? Why? Your answer in 75-100 words: I think human purpose works best with this topic, due to the extreme circumstances. It makes sense to want to give up on our dreams of life when something completely unexpected happens and changes up the course of someone’s entire reality. However, one should know that this is only the beginning of finding purpose because God simply just has something else planned. Janie in my case, has no drive for life anymore due to her injuries, but when she looked into scripture, it states,” Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid ; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9 NIV). c. How does the Christian worldview describe the worldview element you identified? Your answer in 75-100 words: Human life and purpose are important to Christians, and it is a gift from God that must be honored and preserved. The sanctity of life is the name given to this principle. Human beings were made in the image of God, according to the Bible. It also teaches the prohibition of murder. Jesus told his followers that every one of them is so valuable to God that he has counted every hair on their heads. Therefore, we should adapt his principle’s and live gracefully. d. What are Bible passages (cite two or three) that will guide the ethics for the case you choose? How do these Bible passages apply to this case? Your answer in 75-100 words: In Jerimiah 29:11 it states,” For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (NIV) This applies perfectly in Janie’s case. She won’t lose hope for future just because of her being paralyzed. Another great bible verse states,” Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding” (Proverbs 3:5 NIV). This supports the entire point of the CW, that God will take care of all unpleasant things in one’s life if you put your beliefs in Him. e. Based on your answers to b and c, explain the Christian response to the case you chose. In other words, how might the Christian worldview resolve the issue? Your answer in 75-100 words: To stay faithful in what God has planned for her. Janie has a whole new challenge ahead of her, but through faith along with prayer she will find herself livelier than

ever in due time. In the Book of Acts, it states that those will receive power once the Holy Spirit comes upon an individual. Janie will find herself receiving blessings because she turned to God when times became difficult so she will be healed. 3. Your previous responses built a Christian ethical stance and provided a Christian resolution for the case. How might this Christian resolution to the issue increase human dignity and human value? Your answer in 50-75 words: It may increase human dignity and value, by knowing how much God values us. Each and every life is a true gift from God. We may commemorate His gift by appreciating and honoring our own lives as well as the lives of others. We are valuable in His eyes, and we may share light and truth with the world around us by trusting Him and being attentive in our decisions. 4. The Christian position that humans should flourish comes from belief in the goodness of God. How so? What are the connections between God's goodness and human flourishing? Your answer in 50-75 words: The Christian gospel is exceptionally good news because, unlike other faiths, which are inherently inward-focused and self-reliant, it extends an invitation to each and everyone to accept the fullness of grace and the free gift of righteousness. Therefore, we need to live by that grace each day, no matter what obstacles we may face during this journey of life. 5. Considering the Christian resolution you built for the case and everyone involved in the scenario, what might be some benefits or unintended consequences that come from this resolution? What might be challenging for people to accept or do? Your answer in 75-100 words: The only consequence is that Jamie may not put all of her faith within God. When something traumatic happens, it’s hard to believe why God would put us through such a thing. If Jamie stay’s worrying about the future, it will cause her stress. Instead, she should continue to turn to him. In scripture it says, “The LORD is near to all who call to him, to all who call on him in truth. He fulfills the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cry and saves them.” (Psalm 145; 18-19 NIV) 6. What are some ways that Christians should be active in helping to alleviate the suffering related to this issue? Give specific examples that ordinary people can do. Your answer in 75-100 words:

Well, it is of course to treat with people with respect, care and kindness. These are aspects and characteristics of self that should transmute into the presence of others from you. It follows. Be kind and sympathetic to one another, forgiving one another as God forgave you in Christ. Healing others in the name of the LORD will allow yourself to heal even greater. Trust and give faith to the LORD, and he will cherish you forever!
