Corrida de toros...

Description

La Fiesta de San Fermín in Spain and La Corrida de Toros are a cultural celebration because everything started around 1790 and the 1800, meaning that it has been part of Latin America and Spain’s culture for a really long time. It has also shaped their cultures because they see Las Corridas as art, believe that the killing of the bull is a ritual, see a meaning behind the corridas and see the Toreros as national heroes. I believe that it is a cultural celebration because it has a meaning for the people that go and not only that, it also incorporates music, food, history, culture and spectators consider it a sport. In my opinion and basing it in my personal preference, in which I am against any type or form of animal cruelty, I do agree with the Animal Rights Movement that it is a cruel act and that since it has been proven that animals do feel pain, that is not the right way to kill them. Just like Antonio Aguilar, the animal rights activist header of the Humane Society, said even though that in the slaughter houses animals are killed, excuse that toreros use in order to justify the killings, they still need to follow certain guidelines, rules and laws in order for animals to not suffer that much; which in comparison to bullfights the bulls suffer a lot and slowly. Yet leaving my personal preference aside and applying a cultural relativism view to the topic and respecting the indigenous intellectual property rights I guess that bulls are not tortured in vain, toreros see them as victories and at some point as sacred and sometimes they bodies are taken to slaughter houses to be prepared to be sold and that way the meat is not wasted. Like I mentioned before I think that bullfights are more of a cultural manifestation than a sport because it incorporates a lot of aspects that are part of a culture, like I mentioned above food, music, traditions. The teachings are passed from generations to generations making it a tradition and the fact that it has been around since a really long time it shape’s society. Since people from the United States are not used to these types of events or traditions, I think that we can get two definitive reactions from two spectrums of the American society. The first side since it something new to them and the first time their eyes see an event of this type might become amazed and mesmerized, support it and see it as art or something beautiful. On the other hand, since we are part of a “woke” society I believe that the other part of society is going to see it as an atrocity or an act of cruelty and completely disagree with it and would try to join and support organizations like the animal rights movement in order to put a stop to it.
