Thesis: The rate at which cybercrime is increasing in Nigeria is quite alarming. Fact says Nigeria currently ranks third globally in cybercrimes behind the UK and the US. Some people are of the opinion that this menace is due to the poverty level within the country. Another school of thought is saying that it is due to poor governance and poor government policies for young people. Other is of the opinion that it is due to the advancement in technology and the fact that the world is one globally village.

Introduction Almost N127 billion was the estimated loss to cybercrime in Nigeria in 2015. Nigeria ranks third in global internet crimes behind the UK and US. and it has also been Stated that Nigeria ranks 169 out of 199 on the world bank case of Doing Business rankings. All these facts put together to point at one thing the rate of cybercrime in Nigeria is becoming alarming. This paper will examine the various reasons for the high rate or cybercrime which will include various opinion such as poverty level has forced young people to go into cybercrime, is it is the poor policies and governance of the people or due to technological advancement? And the world becoming one global village....
