Learning Journal Unit 2...

Description

Learning Journal Unit II For each category of macromolecule, carbohydrate, lipid, protein and nucleic acid, select a representative polymer and explain its function within the cell. Suggest which aspects of your chosen molecule are characteristic of the class of macromolecules to which it belongs by identifying its monomer subunits and describing their basic chemical structure and the manner in which the monomers are linked together.

Lactose is a carbohydrate that is made up of the monomers glucose and galactose joined by a glycosidic connection. C12O22H11 is the formula. It provides energy to the cell in the form of ATP. Lipids are unsaturated fats, such as those found in oils. They are made up of a double-bonded hydrocarbon chain. They aid in the reduction of blood cholesterol levels. C18H34O2 is an example of oleic acid. . Protein: Proteins are made up of monomers called amino acids. There are 20 amino acids, each with an amino group and a carboxyl-acid group, but with a separate “r” group, and peptide bonds connect them, Cysteine (C3H7NO2S), for example, is important for humans because it plays a key role in protein rigidity and thus aids collagen development, giving the skin its well-deserved elasticity.
