The number 1 (uno) and other numbers ending in -uno have more than one form before masculine nouns -uno is shortened to -un before feminine nouns -uno changes to -una o Examples: Un hombre – Veintiún hombres Una mujer – Veintiuna mujeres o Uno is also used when the number follows a noun even if the noun is feminine, such as in: La lección uno When wanting to ask or know how many people or things there are you use -cuántos for masculine nouns and -cuántas for feminine nouns. o To say “there is or there are” you need to say -Hay o As a question form to ask “is there or are there” you need to use ¿Hay…? o To say “there isn’t any or there aren’t any” you need to use -No hay
