Description

Hannah Parnell Makeup Analysis Paper The movie that I chose for the makeup analysis is Beauty and the Beast. The two main characters Belle and the Beast use very different makeup techniques to achieve their desired looks. Belle uses a simple realistic makeup technique to achieve her character’s look. Her makeup is very simple and natural looking. She also uses basic beauty techniques at times throughout the film. She has some eyeshadow, blush, and color to her lips but still has a natural and realistic look to it. She never overdoes her makeup and keeps it elegant and simple. The Beast uses a completely different makeup style than Belle. The Beast uses the fantasy and hair to achieve his character look of a beast. Prosthetics may also be applied to mold the characters face into a beast as well as old age techniques to help emphasize the lines on the beast’s face. Dan Stevens character. the Beast also had a more realistic look to his character than some other interpretations of the beast. These are the basic makeup techniques used even though I’m sure technology also played a part in The Beast appearance. The time period for the movie based on the outfits and specific items in the movie is most likely around the mid 1700’s to 1800. The seasons in Beauty and the Beast change rapidly with the scenes. In the beginning it is most likely spring/fall, but when Belle reaches the castle it is winter. The spell makes the weather at the castle always winter, but once the spell is broken the season changes back to summer/spring. The time of day changes throughout the whole movie between day and night. For example, it is daytime in the beginning when Belle leaves for the castle, but it becomes night when she is at the castle. Belle’s mood in the beginning is cheerful and happy, but the mood becomes gloomy and sorrowful. This is because the beast has a spell casted on him which makes it very down and gloomy. At the end however when the spell is broken it once again becomes cheerful and happy. Beauty at the Beast theme is love. It teaches you not to judge someone based on their looks, but for who they are. You can see this when Belle falls in love with a Beast. Like you have heard many times before you can’t

judge a book by its cover. Just like a person shouldn’t be judged based on their appearance. This is the basic script analysis from Beauty and the Beast (2017). Belle only lives with her father, who is an inventor. She spends her free time reading book from the library. Belle social standing is lower class. She is not poor, but she is also not struggling for food and essentials. Example in the beginning you see Belle getting bread and there is also a market there for food. She lives in a small town and you can see this in the beginning of the movie. The town members all knew who eachother are. Belle is very smart and wise for her age. She is seen in the movie as weird for being into books instead of focusing on her looks, and getting the best man. She is said to be around 17 in the movie. Belle has a relationship with her father, and ends up having a relationship with the Beast at the end of the film. You can see her fall for the Beast throughout the movie. A prime example of this is the ball. Belle is in a good state of health physically and mentally for she is wise for her age. She has a very positive outlook on the world and she doesn’t care what others think about her. An example is when she is walking through the town and people are talking about her, and she doesn’t care and continues to read her book. Belle does not have an occupation for she is only 17, however she does help her father with the inventions. The Beast was a prince who refused to help and old lady. She then put a curse on the Beast until he could learn to truly love someone. The curse was he would remain a Beast, and he has until the last petal falls off of a enchanted rose to find love. The Beast social standing was higher class, however he still has food and his servants. You can see his servants throughout the movie, and his food in multiple feasts. He lives in a castle in the woods, but in the castle it is always winter because of the curse that was placed on him. His personality is very rude and ungrateful until he falls for Belle. He is nice to her, and ends up truly loving her to break the curse. You can see throughout the movie how his personality changes. He was first cursed when he was 11. You know this because the rose will bloom until he is 21.

The rose bloomed for 10 years making him 21. The Beast only had relationships with his servants. You can see that some of them act as a right hand man to him, and are the only people he has until he meets Belle. He forms a relationship with Belle, and you can see this again at the ball. Other than being a Beast his state of health is good. He ends up getting stabbed towards the end, but transforms back into a prince afterwards. He was quiet and mean until he met Belle, and she changed him for the better. His occupation is a prince....
