This activity is typically performed in the bedroom following the washing & drying of sheets (or by using a second pair of clean sheets). Completing this task alone can be challenging, as well as when the bed is close to other pieces of furniture (bedside tables) or the wall.

5. Social demands:

The activity is typically a solitary or a two-person activity. If it is a two-person activity, one person usually takes the lead to direct the other person on where to position themselves.

Steps Fitting the fitted sheet Unfold the fitted sheet (this is the one with the elasticized corners). Lay the fitted sheet on the mattress and spread it out as flat as possible. Position it on the bed to ensure it is going in the right direction, (as the mattress is longer than it is wide) with the fitted sheet’s raw overlocker seams facing down, and the ‘good’

side facing up. Grasp one corner of the fitted sheet over the top right corner of the mattress, and pull it under the mattress so that the fitted sheet’s corner seam aligns with the mattress’ top

right corner. Pull the sheet taut and stretch the fitted sheet’s bottom right corner down over the

mattress’ bottom right on the same side, Walk around to the other side of the bed and pull the sheet taut so that the bottom left

fitted sheet’s corner seem aligns with the mattress’s bottom left corner Pull the final fitted sheet corner toward the top left corner of the bed and tuck it under that corner of the mattress, aligning the fitted sheets top left corner seam with the top of

the mattress. Walk around the bed and ensure all corners of the fitted sheet are still in place, tucked

under the mattress. Fitting the flat sheet Unfold the flat sheet and lay it down on over your fitted sheet on the mattress and

spread it out as flat as possible In a straight line, align the top of the flat sheet with the top corners of the bed so that the

flat sheet overhangs at the bottom of the bed Lift the bottom LHS of the mattress slightly, allowing the flat sheet’s overhang to be

tucked under the LHS of the mattress Walk around to the other side of the bed and pull the sheet taut, while lifting the bottom

13

RHS of the mattress to tuck the flat sheet’s overhang under the RHS of the mattress Return to the top of the bed and pull the sheet taut so that it is smooth and wrinkle free.
