Expected Pharmacological Action -Alone or with other agents in the management of hypertension. -Management of symptomatic heart failure. -Slowed progression of asymptomatic left ventricular dysfunction to overt heart failure.
Therapeutic Use -Lowering of BP in patients with hypertension. -Increased survival and reduction of symptoms in patients with symptomatic heart failure. -Decreased development of overt heart failure.
Complications -Hypotension -Chest pain -Abdominal pain -Dizziness
Medication Administration Oral solution Tablet Injection
Contraindications/Precautions -Hypersensitivity -History of angioedema -OB, may cause fetal harm
Nursing Interventions -Monitor BP and pulse frequently -Monitor weight -May cause hyperkalemia.
Interactions -Excessive hypotension may occur with concurrent use of diuretics. -Increase levels of lithium may increase risk of toxicity Client Education Evaluation of Medication Effectiveness -Decrease in BP without appearance of excessive side effects. -Improvement in survival and reduction of symptoms in heart failure. -Decrease in development of overt heart failure.
