Once Oscar gets the job working security the film picks up and it becomes something more interesting than the just a farming family in the big city It's about a family na napilitang pumunta sa Manila dahil sa kakulangan ng pera sa kanilang ani. Struggling to get by, taken advantage at every turn the family realizes that things are not even remotely as they had hoped. When Oscar, the head of the family, lucks out and talks his way into a position as a security guard things are looking up, until he finds out that there are other forces at work that once again look to crush him and his family. Life in Manila isn't easy, however, and the little family soon finds this out: Oscar moves from "job" to "job" as his family moves from house to house. The little family finds itself walking without rest for an evening when they quickly up and leave their spot on the sidewalk upon witnessing a woman's abduction. When they move to a makeshift house by a river in Tondo, his wife Mai manages to find a job as a dancer at a bar. Nung umpisa ko tong napanood ay naboring ako, dahil kadalasan ko ng nakikita ang kahirapan sa Manila , pero kahit na ganoon ay di ko na namalayan na ang mga mata ko ay naiwan na sa pinapanood kong palabas. Nacucurious ako kung ano ang mangayayari sa pamilya , kung magiging okay ba sila at makakaraos sa problema. Ipinakita sa palabas na ito ang kahirapan at maduming gawain ng criminal sa pilipinas. Pag dudruga, pangungupit, pagbebenta ng laman at pangingikil ng pera . Iba – iba man ang dahilan , pero lahat sila ay may dahilan kung bakit nangyari ito , masama man ito o mabuti. My bias stated I have to say Metro Manila when seen on it's own terms is really good, and the second half lifting it up into the realm of something special. Actually I know a couple of people who saw it at Film Comment Selects and who haven't seen variations on its plot who are absolutely over the moon for it. They warned me that it was a film that was going to hang with me for days afterward. Me,I know it's good enough that if I can distance myself from this mini-wave of similar films I am coming back to it to give it a second go. You should try it for yourself....
