Description

Jada Adderley MGMT 3610

Middle Tennessee State University consists of eight undergraduate colleges which all have great programs. We all know that every school has its Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats, and of course MTSU is one. There are many key areas each component of the SWOT analysis focuses on, for example MT Engage or connecting college to career. These both fall under the category of Undergraduate Education as they are built in the success of college students at MTSU. Below is a SWOT analysis table for MTSU’s undergraduate education.

Weaknesses

Strengths  

The general education courses has a clear and limited focus. Impacts freshman and sophomore students learning positively, making them vulnerable to retention issues The redesign process is in pace and displaying promise and progress

 

Threats

Opportunities 

The progress of these improvements can ensure greater success as well as higher grades The school will gain recognition in the field of gen eds and would attract more students

These courses would require significant faculty development and involvement as well as buy-in Faculty learning communities have yet to be fully embraced There are several courses that need redesigning due to many different versions of one course eg. Class size.

 

Negative complaints from students about the poor programs Can create issues for the school’s population.

Based on the information given about MTSU’s undergraduate education SWOT analysis, there are several things that need to be focused on in order to ensure the success of undergraduates. In the SWOT analysis above, it focused mainly on the general education courses at MTSU.

Although that is one to be improved on, connecting college to career is also an important factor. In connecting college to career, their weakness is not focusing most attention on freshmen and they need information about post college the most so that they can prepare for what’s about to come. Also, the poor teaching skills of some faculty at MTSU. My recommendation to improve firstly the general education courses is to start planning to improve now and begin making changes for the courses to be more successful than they already are. A second improvement is faculty improvement and knowledge about the courses to ensure success of the students. The faculty should be aware of the changes and take necessary actions. As it relates to connecting after college, the third recommendation for undergraduate success is to put more focus on incoming freshmen and teaching them about life after college. They need to be aware of what they’re going to face after college and how to approach it as well as be successful. The fourth recommendation is continuing the evaluations and putting action behind them. In personal experience, I have encountered a great amount of “bad” professors, whether it relates to their teaching skills or attitude, and many of my peers can agree with me depending on the teacher. I believe that once a teacher receives a great amount of bad evaluations, they should be put under investigation and fired if there’s no improvement. The recommendations given were risk avoiding strategies. Risk avoiding is designed to minimalize as many threats as possible in order to save in cost and create damaging events. In these cases, I suggest action be taken in order to ensure the success of students. This doesn’t require a great deal of costs, just effort!...
