MODULE 2 Literacy Training Ser vice NSTP MODULE ON

DIMENSIONS OF DEVELOPMENT I. What is this lesson about? In this module, you will learn about the seven NSTP Dimensions of Development .

II. What will you learn? At the end of this module, you should be able to: 1. 2. 3.

To explain the different dimensions of development in NSTP ; To discuss what programs/projects may be implemented under the NSTP program; To articulate their responsibilities on programs/projects that they will pursue.

III. What are the activities /tasks you will engage in? Reading this Module on NSTP Dimensions of Development A. B. Reflecting and recalling what you have learned in the past C. Interview or message former NSTP students and determine their activity involvement in NSTP D. A short commentary on what you can do in NSTP along the dimension of development in the light of this Pandemic.

IV. What do you already know? (Pre-requisite concepts) In elementary and high school , you learned about developments endeavors pursued by the government and private sectors that are designed to benefit the Filipino people. Try to recall what you learned and reflect now that you are already in college and are expected to contribute to development. These will help you connect them to new learning in this new topic. What is Dimension of Development The word dimension as used in NSTP means aspects, features, elements or part of something (Merriam-Webster).In this case, dimensions of NSTP means its features, the different elements of development in which students involve themselves with.

The Acronym for NSTP Dimension of Development

To help students to easily recall what are the dimensions of development of NSTP. An acronym is a word or name formed from the initial components of a longer name or phrase, usually

using individual initial letters. The acronym for dimension of development is the word SERVICE. The acronym represents the following:

S- Safety and Security E- Education R- Recreation V- Values Formation /Moral Recovery I- Industry and Entrepreneurship C- Care for Health E- Environment

3) What are Seven Dimensions of Development of COMPONENTS)

NSTP ( NSTP SERVICE

1. Safety and Security - This area involves disaster preparedness during fire, earthquake or other calamity that needs immediate response from any trained civilians during emergency situations. Basic life saving seminar, fire drill and the like are some of these examples. 2. Education - This area involves enhancement of institutional support materials and facilities for the community and school such as providing materials containing basic literacy skills for preschoolers, alternative learning system for out-of-school youths and adults, mathematics and science tutorials and extended services of skilled students. 3. Recreation - This area involves sports fest, parlor games for street children and painting that enrich youth’s capacities to relate with one another in the community. 4. Values Formation and Moral Recovery - This involves the development of youth to be good leaders, responsible individuals imbued with good moral values and active agent of development of the community. 5. Industry and Entrepreneurship - This area includes programs and activities that are vital to economic growth. CWTS students demonstrate technical skills in communities like meat processing, silkscreen making and how to establish small business. 6. Care for Health - This area aims to give knowledge on medical-related fields and extend health services needed in the community. It includes medical services like first-aid operation, vaccination, info dissemination, basic life saving seminars, heath / nutrition technical assistance and training of youth to be first aid assistants. 7. Environment - This area inculcates environmental awareness and its contribution to health and related fields. It involves management of waste, environmental protection, dissemination and application of technologies supportive of the community needs and livelihood activities related to environment and other related fields supportive of the national thrust.

4) What are the activities that may be undertaken under each of the dimensions Read again the 7 dimensions of development listed in no. 3 (above) and extract the sample activities mentioned . You are also expected to determine other activities that can be listed under each of the dimensions.

V. How much have you learned? Lets Do This Ask 5 people you know who have taken NSTP during their college days and ask them what their class did as part of the requirements of NSTP. Then classify the activities they have undertaken under the appropriate NSTP dimensions of development we have studied earlier. Let’s Apply Activity # 2 Based on what you have read, brief interview with former college students who have taken NSTP and based on your reflections , Make a list of what activities you can add to the list mentioned and what are some roles that you can do as NSTP-LTS student. As student of NSTP , what can you contribute to nation building along the dimension do development.
