Scenario:You are working as a Registered Nurse at a local hospital that has recently changed ownership. The new owners of the hospital are committed to a culture that embraces evidence-based practice (EBP) and utilizes EBP as a guide for their policies and procedures. The focus on evidence-based practice can be seen as part of the hospital’s mission statement and local advertising campaign which states, “Evidence-based practice: The key to advancing quality and safety in healthcare.” While the hospital mission includes the statement: “…to be the healthcare center of choice, through superior clinical outcomes, evidence-based practice-driven protocols, and the advancement of practice utilizing formal and continuing education.”The hospital leadership team has shared that they are beginning the process of applying for Magnet status as a healthcare facility. They have asked for volunteers to serve on a sub-committee to select a nursing theorist as a framework that will be used to guide nursing practice. You have been asked to research the various nursing theorists, and select two to present to the leadership team. Content: From the list provided, select two nursing theorists. Prepare a written proposal that compares and contrasts the two theories and makes a recommendation for which theory would be a better fit for the facility. Please include the following in your proposal:Identify the two selected theorists and briefly summarize each theory. Compare and contrast the two selected theories.Formulate a recommendation for the theorist that best aligns to the facility.
Theories Guiding Nursing Practice Overview of The Conservation Model (Myra Estrin Levine) Conservation is a natural law that describes how complex systems can continue to function even when severely challenged (Alligood, Martha Raile, 2017). Through conservation, individuals can confront challenges, adapt accordingly, and maintain their uniqueness (Alligood, Martha Raile. 2017). Levine proposed four "conservation principles" to guide nursing care, which postulate the Unity and Integrity of the individual.
Conservation of energy All life's processes are fundamentally dependent upon the production and expenditure of energy," which applies to everything in the universe, including people (Alligood, Martha Raile. 2017). The individual requires a balance of power and constant renewal of energy to maintain life activities. Conservation of structural Integrity Structure and function are strongly interrelated complementary aspects of the human organism. Therefore, nursing interventions to ensure adequate energy to support life processes (function) must be balanced by interventions to conserve the typical structure of the body(Alligood, Martha Raile. 2017). All nursing care should maintain a continual rehabilitative focus to minimize structural damage and prevent disability. Conservation of Personal Integrity Conservation of Personal Integrity is based on valuing self-identity, self-worth, and self-respect, also reflecting the understanding that "the body does not exist separately from the mind, emotions, and soul. Nursing interventions to conserve Integrity include teaching patients, promoting patient participation in decision-making and consent to treatment, protecting patient privacy, personal possessions, and supporting cultural practices. Conservation of Social Integrity Social Integrity is reflected in dynamic relationships among human beings. Family is a critical social unit in which every individual is made up of. Nursing care to conserve social Integrity encompasses the care of the family and care for the patient and transition care from the nurse to the patient and family. Nursing care to preserve social Integrity also includes interventions to
assist the patient with maintaining "ethnic and subcultural affiliations" of the community and supporting any socially connected religious needs. Overview of Unitary Human Beings Theory (Martha E. Rogers) Rogers's conceptual nursing model rested on a set of basic assumptions that described the life process in human beings: wholeness, openness, unidirectionality, pattern and organization, sentience, and thought characterized the life process (Alligood, Martha Raile. 2017). Rogers postulates that human beings are dynamic energy fields that are integral to environmental areas. Both environmental fields and humans are identified by pattern and characterized by a universe of open systems. Compare and contrast the two selected Theories Nursing theories contain various concepts, but to compare and contrast concepts within nursing theories, I will focus on the four main concepts of nursing theory as identified in the nursing meta-paradigm (Nursing, Health, Person, and environment ) to answer this part of the paper.

Recommendation for the theorist that best aligns to the facility goal We use theoretical frameworks and nursing models to explain nursing interventions and predict how those interventions or actions are related to improved patient care. Additionally, nursing
theories and models provide us with defined concepts essential to guide our nursing practise (Alligood, 2014). After completing my research using the nursing metaparadigm between the two theories, I would like to present Myra Estrin Levine Conservation Model to the leadership team as a better fit for the facility. The concept of the theory aligns with the new management goal. In Myra Estrin Levine Conservation Model theory, the purpose of all nursing care should be to promote wholeness, realizing that every individual requires a unique and separate cluster of activities. The individual's Integrity, oneness, identity as an individual, and wholeness are his abiding concern. It is the nurse's responsibility to assist him in defending and seeking its realization. Suppose all these attributes in this theory that align with the new management's goal can be followed. In that case, I believe it will improve patient outcome and satisfaction and, in return, increase the facility rating to earn them the Magnet status as a healthcare facility. Also, Nurses use the conservation model to guide nursing care and anticipate, explain, and predict patient care needs. The conservation model of nursing is just as applicable to nursing practise and nursing science now as when it was initially developed because, as Levine said, "everywhere that nursing is essential, the rules of conservation and integrity hold."
