2. If references are available, are the references scholarly or popular? The references given are popular.

3. Do the references provide any credibility to the source being considered for an academic paper? I would say that for an academic paper these references are informational and would be credible to use as a source. 4. List an example of one source, if available, and identify the source as scholarly or popular.

[4]Ganz PA. Advocating for the woman with breast cancer. CA: a cancer journal for clinicians. 1995 MarApr;45(2):114-26 I would say this is a scholarly source because its providing information to others to educate them.

5. Summarize these four questions by stating if the references are available, credible and if this eBook should be used as a source in an academic paper. With these reference in the Ebook I would say that this is a credible source to use in future academic papers. /5

1. What is the publication date for this eBook?

2009 2. How old does that make this eBook? 17 years old 3. Does the age of the eBook matter considering that the topic is chemotherapy, surgery and the elderly?

Yes, If it is not up to date there is always new findings and yes it is not false information but as far as learning about if it is the best option the best way to come up with a conclusion is if you have to most recent information. 4. Explain why the publication date matters or not based on your answers from above. Make sure you relate the topic and the publication date and explain if this eBook would be a good source for an academic paper. It is important to know the published date because if the information is out dated there may be new studies and new findings that prove the old facts to be wrong or changed. I think to use for an academic paper especially in the medical field you should use a publication within the last few years to make sure you have the latest up to date information and to better educate others in your academic paper.

Objectivity/bias. 1. Is the purpose of the eBook to inform the reader of the topic or to convince the reader of something?

The purpose of this ebook is to inform the reader of social work practice in the care of breast and ovarian cancer survivors there will be the authors’ experiences with some of the survivors but the author isn’t trying to convince the reader to agree with a certain side so to speak but is just sharing experiences and what these women go through.

/5

2. Based on the identification of the purpose of the eBook, would you say the book is objective, biased or both? (Note: every informational source is objective, biased or both. It is not possible for an item to not be objective or biased as these are opposite concepts.) This ebook I would classify it as being objective, it informs the reader and doesn’t try to push them towards a treatment or a certain way of thinking. 3. Considering the chapter content, provide an example for how you determined if the eBook was objective, biased or both and explain how your example demonstrates the concept.

One of the chapters is called “Impact on family and friends” I feel like there is not really a side to take but the author is just stating others experiences and how their friends and families were impacted. That is why I believe that this ebook is objective.

4. Finally, state if you feel that this would be a good source for an academic paper and why.

I would use this source for an academic paper due to all the information of those who have been through this and are survivors. Their stories can add more credibility and provide great examples from those first hand experiences. 2. Look at the following APA citation Davis, Cindy. (2009). Oncology Social Work Practice in the Care of Breast and Ovarian Cancer Survivors. /5 for the eBook you have reviewed New York: Nova Science Publishers, Inc. and list the errors that are included. 5. Title is not Italicized 6. Not doubled space (There are 5 errors listed) 7. Not hanging indent 8. Not all supposed to be in bold Consult the libguide in the module 9. Needs city and State for examples of APA citation style and contact me with any questions. 3. List the PICO question that you are using for this course.

tarter build up or the changing of personal habits a better treatment option in the prevention of furthering health issues? Now you will find one book on your topic using a library catalog. NOTE: Books from your personal library or online bookstores such as Amazon.com DO NOT COUNT, but eBooks available through the Stewart Library catalog/Weber State eBook collections or OneSearch are acceptable provided the full-text is available. Books from any library catalog must be retrieved in order to evaluate. Any library catalog is acceptable provided that an online library catalog exists that I may access. 4. List the resource that you used to locate the book/eBook that you have selected for this assignment. Any library catalog is acceptable. (If you are using a library catalog other than the Stewart Library catalog then include the URL in this space) I began to use ebsco but there were zero results found, so I then ended up using one search.

you are unsure how to include screenshots.

related to the topic.

4. Has the author written other publications on this topic or similar topics? The author Sho Yamamoto has not written any other texts.

5. Summarizing these four questions by stating if this author should be considered an expert on this topic and if the source should be used in an academic paper.

2010 2. Does the age of the source matter considering your listed topic?

Yes, it is about 6 years old. There may be newer studies with new finding. But because this is a textbook and its objective the information should remain the same, but more recent studies should be looked at and compared.

3. Explain why the publication date matters based on your chosen topic. Make sure you relate your topic and the publication date and explain

/5

if this book would be a good source for an academic paper.

In the medical field there are always new studies and information being discovered and with treatment options you will always want to look for the most up to date treatment options. You wouldn’t look at treatment options from 30 years ago in the dental field because in the last 30 years technology has come a long way in dental field....
