Description

My Expectations in the Classroom (Hentz & Jones pp. 70-71)

Directions: Individually complete this worksheet by listing your expectations for the following topics. After completion, share the responses with your co-teacher and discuss your reactions to the responses. I have the following expectations in the classroom: 1. Parent communication: I expect parents to communicate with me on a weekly basis (more often if needed). Contact can occur through Remind, signed paper folders (weekly), or agendas (daily).

2. Instructional routines: I expect students to follow all routines and procedures as far as staying in their seats/areas during various methods of instructions (whole group, small group, etc.).

3. Discipline procedures: I expect students to follow our social contract (Capturing Kids’ Hearts training). I expect them to follow all rules in the classroom. Behavior marks will be given if students do not adhere to these rules.

4. Independent work: I expect students to complete work on their own, without looking at a neighbor’s paper. I expect them to try their best, not give up, and ask for help if needed (when available).

5. Cooperative learning: I expect students to work in groups, following the social contract and routines in place in the classroom. I expect everyone to be involved in the discussion or activity. I expect students to listen to everyone’s opinion and everyone to actively participate.

6. Differentiated instruction: Differentiated instruction will occur on a daily basis. This will be done specifically in small groups and stations.

7. Data analysis: Data will be analyzed daily through informal observations, ticket out the door, quick checks, etc. Test data will be analyzed and used to drive instruction (especially when it comes to small groups). MAP data will be used to determine small groups, partners, etc. Common assessment data will be analyzed and used to determine what needs to be retaught and to who (whole group, small group, one-on-one).

8. Planning: Planning between teacher and co-teacher will occur weekly afterschool.

9. Accommodations: Students who receive accommodations will receive them with fidelity, both in the classroom and during assessments.

10. Evaluation: I expect to be evaluated by not only my admin, but also the regular ed teacher. I expect to be able to talk to each of the regular ed teachers each week to discuss what worked well, could be done better, etc.

11. Homework: Students will have homework in Math each night. Reading homework will always be to read for 20 minutes. Science/SS will be to look over study guides 510 minutes each night. Homework will be returned on Fridays. Not doing so will result in homework marks.

12. Physical environment: I expect the physical environment of my classroom to be welcoming and inviting. I want my students to feel at home and comfortable, not overwhelmed.

13. Literacy centers: I expect the rituals and routines of literacy centers to be followed to a T. These procedures will be taught and practiced for the first few weeks of school. Any questions, comments, or concerns will be addressed during the teaching and modeling process. Students will know what is expected of them during this time (on task, working together, quieter voices, in designated area, etc.)....
