ASSESSMENT 1 WORKPLACE SIMULATION (PAIR WORK-25%)

SITUATION

You bump into your colleague at the office pantry. He/She is unhappy with other colleagues who are using his/her mug and cutlery as he/she fears that viruses can easily be transmitted. Being a ‘health-conscious’ person, have a discussion with your colleague on the appropriate ways to prevent virus transmission and maintain general cleanliness at the office.

Liza

: Hey Nani, why do you take your lunch so late? It’s 3pm already.

Nani : Yeah, I’m so busy today. I have to finish my report and send it to my boss by the end of the day, I think I have to stay late. I’m really tired. Why are you here?

Liza : I need a coffee break, my work makes me sleepy and I need to boost my energy. I’m also busy preparing for a meeting with board of directors tomorrow.

Nani

: Really? That must be a lot of pressure to deal with all the directors tomorrow.

Liza : Yes, I really hope I didn’t mess it up. By the way, have you met the new guy in my department?

Nani : No, but I heard about him, he’s the guy from our competitors right? I hope he can adjust well with our hectic work culture.

Liza

: Yeah, I hope he doesn’t regret working here. (Haha)

Nani : (Haha) I hope so too. Liza can you pass me my mug over the sink, it’s white colour with cute cats picture on it.

Liza

: You’re so obsess with cats Nani. Hey It’s not here, maybe it’s on your desk

Nani

: (Sigh) Not again.

Liza

: Why? What happen?

Nani

: Looks like somebody have been using my mug again.

Liza

: Oh really?. You should keep your mug and cutleries at your desk.

Nani : Yeah perhaps I should do that, but the pantry is where it should be. I’m very concern nowadays of new viruses and how it easily be transmitted within the communities, that’s why it bothers me when somebody used my things.

Liza : I agree with you Nani, I think the office should raise the awareness to not share things with each other because of the pandemic.

Sabri : Hi girls, are you having a coffee break?

Nani

: Hi Sabri. Just finished my lunch, we’re just discussing now.

Sabri : Oh what did you had? The coffee smells good.

Nani

: Just a sandwich, haven’t seen you in quite some time, where have you been?

Sabri : Just came back from medical leaves. What are you guys discussing about Nani and Liza? Sound so serious.

Liza

: Somebody has been using Nani’s mug and she’s upset about it.

Sabri : No wonder she looks so gloomy.

Nani : Are you sure you’re well enough? Make sure you’re healthy before you come to the office.

Sabri : Totally good now Nani, don’t worry. I’m very aware about the issue. I just stayed at home while I am sick. That’s rude and not hygienic to use other people personal items such as mug or cutleries.

Liza : Absolutely, do you have any thoughts about appropriate ways to prevent virus transmission and maintain general cleanliness at the office Sabri ?

Sabri : Of course I have thoughts about it Liza, I think the office should emphasise on hygiene measures around here, they should provide hand sanitiser on every floor and always stock up their cleaning product to keep the office cleanliness.

Nani : That’s right. They should schedule hourly office cleaning and sanitise places that people frequently go too, like the toilet and this pantry too to prevent the risk of having virus transmitted.

Sabri : Other than that, the office should educate their employee to always wash their hands and wear a mask if you’re sick. Even though it is a basic self care, but some people are being ignorant about hygiene matters.

Liza : They should consider posting signs too. To remind people of their responsibilities such as avoid touching their nose, eyes and mouth because that are the entry sites for viruses and bacteria.

Sabri : Another thing is the office should imply work from home for those who are able to do their jobs at home so that the office is not crowded and also to reduce the risk of transmitting virus.

Nani : I’m worried how most people take things easily about these virus, they don’t know the later effect of this situation that’s why they’re okay with sharing mugs and all.

Sabri : Me too, I am worry because we can’t know a person’s immune system wether they are strong enough to fight the viruses. That’s why we have to be responsible for ourself and others.

Liza : Indeed, in order to do that the office should start with general cleanliness at the office first such as taking trash out daily or display signage with cleanliness theme.

Sabri : I think I’m going to take these ideas to human resources department and suggest it to them.

Liza : Yeah you should Sabri. Wow look at the time, it’s late. I should go now, I need to finish up my work. See you guys around.

Nani

: Oh my god me too, we lose track of time. Take care and stay safe Liza and Sabri.
