AUGUST 29th Black History Class ● No classes in minority schools ● Today’s society care about gender and sexuality than race Music ● Hip hop and rap ○ Vulgar, explicit ○ Disrespectful to black women ● Defending music artists, but bash certain individuals for speaking poorly about minorities ○ “They’re just tryna get their money” ■ Dr.Moore “So is Trump” ● Triggers responses ○ Ex: When you’re at a party and a certain song comes on that makes everyone get on the dance floor ● Selective morality ○ Blacks have been pimpin out other blacks for decades ■ On our pain and trauma for their own unique unique economic and monetary benefits ○ Hip hop artists project to the public in a certain way, but raise their children different (ex: elite private schools) ● Cardi B ○ Posted a video talking about why female rappers rap about their bodies and sex because it sells and positive things dont ● Who dictates what we listen to on the radio? ○ Every hip hop radio station is owned by 2-3 companies meaning they’re in control White people haven't always been white ● Crusades ○ Europeans countries fighting each other for supremacy ○ Before the dawn of the atlantic slave trade, there were different races that we identify as “whites” ■ (ex: german, irish, Slovenian, Lithuanian, Italians, etc) ○ The concept of white has no meaning ● Blacks take their identity when in the presence of whites ○ (ex: different ethnic groups in africa; south african, hibo, uruba, etc) ● Notice what white ethnic groups have in common is the color of their skin. ○ Ethnic differences but when dealing with whites; you’re black

Slavery ● Slave ○ Term used for chicken, hog, pig, horse, etc. ● Enslaved ○ Term that brought humanity to blacks ● Why africans were enslaved? ○ Couldn't run away without being identified ○ Had a history of working in agriculture ○ Weren’t considered christian ○ There were alot of africans and there was already slavery in africa ○ Were immune to a lot of diseases in america Black Myths ● It’s easy for black women to give birth ○ Reason why new mothers die after giving birth ● Black people are better at sports ○ Mostly males ● Black people can't swim or read ○ Pools were segregated so a lot of parents couldn’t swim Amendments ● 13th - Abolished slavery ● 14th - Granted citizenship to all persons born or naturalized in the United States— including former slaves—and guaranteed all citizens “equal protection of the laws.” ● 15th - Granted African American men the right to vote After Civil War ● Reunite families ○ Effect - absent fathers ● Established schools ○ They were once denied ○ Public schools are only established in the south if black people make them ● Purchase land ○ Economic engine ○ Economic independence ● Create mutual aid societies ○ Organizations that pull money together to put into the community ● Form churches ○ Black church becomes a spiritual haven and a place for community meetings Jim Crow
