Description

HALLOWEEN Psychology Thalamus Hypothalamus Four F’s Limbic System  Motivation, energizes, your behaviors  Memory (new) o Hippocampus  Extreme emotion o Anygdala – rage, sex Superior colliquli  Vision Inferior colliquli  Hearing Reticular activating system (RAS)  Cocktail party phenomenon Reticular formation (RF) Attention – filters out unimportant sensory info  Arousal – puts you to sleep and awakes you Brain stem  Brain turns into the spinal cord 1) RAS 2) Medulla – vital life reflexes; breathing, heart rate – when damaged you die 3) Cerebellum – fine motor control Brain cells  Neurons One cell can be broken into three different parts; Dendrite Soma Axon Action potential Cell discharges or depolarizes Dendrite  soma  axon Testing potential Neuron is charged up and ready to “fire off” When two neurons come together its called a synapse Neurotransmitters ; chemicals released in the synapse Receptors receive neurotransmitter Receptor/neurotransmitter – excites/inhibits

Neuromuscular junction – where the axon joins the voluntary/skeletal muscle In this junction a neurotransmitter called ACH is released (acetylcholine) Causes the muscle to contract Curate blocks ACH from getting into the muscle – therefore it cannot contract/get tense 1) Punch Drunte Syndrome 2) Cerebral vascular accident (CVA) a. Brain  Blood vessel  Damage Stroke  Causes: o Blood vessel burst o High blood pressure “hypertension”  ‘silent killer’; no symptoms Symptoms of Stroke:       

Loss of sensation – sensory cortex Aphasia – language deficit Brocas Wernitries Apraxia – motor disturbance (coordinate movement) Agnosia – sensory disturbance; i.e facial agnosia; inability to recognize familiar faces Psychological o Anxiety o Depression o Abnormal swearing Epilepsy o Uncontrolled electrical storm of the brain...
