What two job characteristics are most important to you? According to the assessment the first job characteristic that is most important to me is Skill Variety: The degree to which a job requires you to use a variety of skills. I agree with this because of the two questions that made up this score which were item 1 and item 7. I do love to be able to perform a variety of activities in a day of work as well as use a variety of skills. The second job characteristic that is most important to me is Task Identity: The degree to which a job requires completion of a whole and identifiable piece of work. The two items that made up the score for this conclusion are item 4 and item 9. They both make sense for me as item 4 mentions the ability to see projects or jobs through to completion, rather than performing only one piece of the job and item 9 says to have time and resources to do an entire piece of work from beginning to end. I always like to finish what I start so this is important to me. What two job characteristics are least important to you? According to the assessment the first job characteristic that is least important to me is Autonomy: The degree to which a job provides freedom, empowerment, and discretion in scheduling the work and determining processes and procedures for completing the work. This was determined by item 3 and item 8 which are freedom to determine how to do my job and responsibility to act and make decisions independently of managers or supervisors. I agree that this is least important to me, it would probably be different if I were in a manager position to have the right to work at my discretion. The other job characteristic that is least important to me was Feedback: the degree to which carrying out job-related tasks and activities provides you with direct and clear information about your effectiveness. This score was determined between item 5 and item 10 which were

seeing the results of my work, so I can get an idea of how well I am doing the job and getting feedback about my performance from the work itself. Although I know feedback is important to make sure a job is done efficiently and effectively, I think that all can be done during an evaluation. The way the questions seemed worded to me were like having to have feedback for every step of a task that is being done. The one that was in the middle was Task Significance: The degree to which a job has an impact on the lives or work of others. This score was determined by item 2 and item 6 and they were contributing something significant to the company and a feeling that the quality of my work is important to others in the company. I think this is an important job characteristic as well, but it can’t be important if a task isn’t seen through and finished correctly....
