How to Improve Your K201/K204 Excel Exam Experience 1. Location, location, location! a. Sit near your router, and make sure there are no heavy/dense objects between you and the router. b. Ideally this will also be a quiet area that is free from distractions. If you’re worried about ambient sounds, you are welcome to use ear plugs or listen to music. 2. Household communication a. Let housemates know when you’ll be taking your test so they do not interrupt or distract you. b. Ask your housemates not to use any bandwidth-hungry apps or services (whether over wireless or wired connections) during your exam. Examples include streaming Netflix or Hulu, downloading a video game update, attending a Zoom meeting with family, etc. c. Using the microwave can interrupt Wifi. Communicate that with others in your household and refrain from running a microwave during the exam. 3. Computer/router configuration a. Make sure all updates have been applied to your computer at least 2 hours before your exam. b. Reboot your router 30-45 minutes before your exam. c. Reboot your computer 15-30 minutes before your exam. d. Do not launch any programs other than your web browser. Use Chrome, Edge, or Safari to connect to IUanyWare (do not use Firefox). e. On exam day, do not log in to IUanyWare more than 10-15 minutes before your scheduled exam time. 4. Practice in advance! a. We have set up a Simulation Exam to resemble the actual online exam environment. Your instructor likely assigned the Simulation Exam as a Lab Check. b. Make sure you’ve practiced connecting to the virtual practice exam room in Teams, downloading the Simulation Exam, working on the Simulation Exam in IUanyWare, and submitting the Simulation Exam when you’re finished. c. During the real exam, you will connect to a different virtual exam room in Teams and obviously work on a different exam file, but the process will be the same. 5. If you are unable to connect to IUanyWare at your scheduled exam time but you still have Internet access, you can connect to your virtual exam room in Teams on your local computer and notify your proctors. Follow these steps: a. Go to https://office.iu.edu b. Log in with your [email protected] account and IU passphrase c. Select Teams to launch the Teams web application. Alternatively, if you have installed the Teams desktop application, skip steps a through c and just launch the Teams desktop app. d. Click on the name of your virtual exam room. e. Click on the Technical Help channel and fill out the help form to report your problem. If you do not see a Technical Help channel, click on the hidden channels on the left side of the Team window....
