Description

Oral Presentation Handout By: Alexandra Webb Organization I interned on a congressional campaign for Dr. James St. George who was running for Congress in Florida District 3 area which encompassed the following six counties: Clay, Bradford, Alachua, Marion, Union, and Putnam. There were 10 other opponents in this race. We got 4th out of 10 for the election. Analysis of organization  Mission: To get Dr. James St George elected. We relied on our stakeholders which were donors and voters throughout the district.  Environment Threats: COVID-19 was a threat because restaurants, bars, and businesses were closed so it was hard to have public events to get to know voters and we were unable to door knock for the first couple months.  Leadership: Similar to operant conditioning, campaign manager used positive and negative reinforcement based on if we hit our goal or not.  Workforce Talents and communication: It was fast paced environment which meant little time for training and was more focused on learning from observation or figuring it out on our own. There was open communication most of the time but towards the end it got hectic and communication could have been improved.  Use of Technology: We used technology as our main campaign strategy. We bought the most media buys out of the other candidates. We used social media, texting app, phone banking app, door knocking app, and voter pulling app.  Strengths: We were able to self-fund and we had hired the best media team and had the best consultant. We had a strong team from all different areas.  Weaknesses: We were a first-time candidate from outside the district, so we did not have many connections or a presence in the district while many other candidates held local positions and were well known and involved in the community. Recommendations  Hiring more staff so we could delegate task  More organized  Hire within the district  Candidate more involved in the campaign  Transparency between campaign staff  More involved in the district What I learned/gained from this experience  Took on more of a recruiting and managing younger interns  Took initiative and learned how to lead others  Improved communication and writing skills  Learned layout of how campaigns work and why they are important  Quicker on my feet and able to speak my mind on issues that I found were important...
