Description

Surname 1 Name Instructor Course Date Universal Truth in Chop Suey and On Dumpster Diving Universal truth refers to the experience or emotion presented to readers by an author of a literary nonfiction to evoke a relationship to an event being narrated. These truths are universal because they apply to every individual despite their life experiences, race, upbringing, or language. There is no greater difference among the events depicted in literary nonfiction and actual experiences among people. They are indicative elements of individual experiences that authors such as Ira Sukrungruang and Lars Eighner. The two are respective authors of Chop Suey and On Dumpster Diving. In Chop Suey, Sukrungruang, introduces the notion of memory which is connected to every individual despite their position in society. On the other hand, Eighner focuses on the tribulations faced by an individual on their path to success. Sukrungruang shows that humans have a major connection with their memories despite what they are currently going through. Memories are constituent elements of the existence of individuals and is part of their lives despite their individual differences. Chop Suey describes the fond memories a boy has of his mother and her immense support for him. Memories are among the most important things that individuals hold on to. At least through these memories, people can relive some of their best moments in their early lives. This is an element of universal truth focusing on the significance of memories in our existence. This is especially true since each individual has unique memories that they hold on to. For instance, the narrative reminds me of

Surname 2 all the things my mother did to make me feel protected and safe. To me, this is something worth holding on to and seeing it being depicted in a nonfictional story helps communicate how important it is. It also shows the significance of maternal guidance and advice that helps shape individuals to be respectable individuals in society. These are all examples of the universal truth that Chop Suey manages to convey. The message of the narrative is a clear illustration of what people need to do in real life. For instance, it is clear that the narrative teaches people to always be nice and positive despite how wrongful they are treated. Messages like this show that literary nonfiction has a universal truth since they are applicable to real-life experiences. Eighner presents a narrative that shows an individual going through harsh difficulties in their lives on their road towards success. This is a very common occurrence especially in modern society where people have to go through extreme difficulties in a bid to succeed. Although it may not be apparent through physical appearance, a lot of people go through difficulties that make them feel like they are disadvantaged. However, how they emerge from these challenges help evoke the idea of success once they get to their destination. On Dumpster Diving attempts to present this universal truth by looking at dumpster diving as one of the challenges that people, especially the homeless have to go through while looking for something valuable to give meaning to their lives. In a way, the narrative is a complete instructional manual for individuals finding themselves in this position and realizing that they have to go through major challenges to succeed. The universal truth is based on the perception of society regarding the homeless people which is a very common ill that portrays the homeless as unfit and outcasts. Although I have not experienced homelessness in my life, I find the perceptions about the homeless to be exaggerated and unrealistic. Many people I have interacted with have a negative perception of the homeless, making the issue more focused on demeaning the status of a group of underprivileged persons.

Surname 3 On Dumpster Diving is based on this universal truth. In a way, this truth is applicable to everyone because one can easily fall from the favor success has to offer and find themselves in situations which require them to survive harder. As a result, it is a factor of real-life experiences. The analysis proves that the two narratives, On Dumpster Diving and Chop Suey have a universal truth that all readers can relate to. The authors illustrate individual experiences that are not only limited to themselves but to a wider group of individuals. Memories and initial life difficulties are constituent elements defining the experiences people have to go through. It does not matter which differences separate people, the important thing is that they all go through the same experiences in life, holding on to dear memories and having gone through a series of hardships before they finally succeeded in their life. Memories are part of our daily lives that each individual has. However, challenges are different. Despite this variation, they are all reallife experiences that had a toll in our lives. The important thing of these truths is that people can relate them to their experiences through emotions or deeper meanings of their experience....
