Sources of conflict Each employee has different expectations at work and as a result of this, there is a high chance of arising conflicts in the workplace. There are various sources of conflicts that could happen. The major and serious sources of conflicts are: Personality Conflicts Everybody has their own unique personality and beliefs. The personality conflicts arise when one employee cannot accept other one’s behaviour and attitude to the work as well as to his or her colleagues. This is one of the most challenging conflicts because it can affect the company’s overall performance so badly. Disagreements can happen when employees have contrast viewpoints and opinion while taking organisational decisions. In the video, we can see that the co-workers are blaming each other, and they do not try to understand the situation that the other employees are going through. We can also see in the video that the burden of the whole group project is held with only few or one employee; whereas the other employees are only trying to criticise each other. Communication Conflicts Poor communication can lead to lack of team work and lower individual as well as group performance. Misunderstanding of co-worker’s expectations is also considered as conflict arises from lack of proper communication. Informal communication may lead to rumours and unchecked gossips which makes the situation worse. Communication clashes also occur when the team leader has not defined the roles and individual expectations to the team work. This kind of communication error may lead to work ambiguity and then this results in finger pointing as well as blaming each other. In the video, the manager did not communicate well about the team project and how it is achieved as a team. He did not even properly allocate the tasks to each and every one, which made the employees feel confused about the team project.

Functional and Dysfunctional Conflicts Two types of conflicts can occur within a company are functional and dysfunctional conflicts. Functional conflicts are those conflicts that support the goals and improves the performance level of the organisation. On the other way, dysfunctional conflicts block or hinders the overall group performance. Functional conflicts are always necessary for every organisation for making needed changes. But dysfunctional conflicts lead to higher stress to employees and it is motivated by egos and selfishness of employees with an ambition to always stand first. In the video, almost all the conflicts are functional conflicts. Everybody understood what the real problem is and tried to find the solution through communicating with each other....
