Using A Workbook : Tutorial Booklet Objectives

This tutorial booklet provides task based exercises to familiarise the user with using PebblePad (ECU’s Learning Portfolio system).

Outcomes

Upon completion the user will understand how to navigate around the menu and use a workbook.

About this Tutorial

This booklet can be used in conjunction with the relevant Tip Sheets for each specific area and the PebblePad and ATLAS online help. Specifically it is intended to be used during a formal face to face training session. It is assumed the user has the appropriate level of access to perform the tasks described.

Task 1 Login to PebblePad via Blackboard 1. Login into the student portal on the ECU website www.ecu.edu.au. 2. Enter your ECU username and password and click on the Blackboard link. 3. Click on a site. Then from the menu on the left select the appropriate ‘pebble related’ link and click on the PebblePad icon.

Task 2 Locate Help Resources 1. From the PebblePad home page, click on the

button in the top right corner of the page.

2. From the Pebble+ Help page, click on the ‘ECU Help’ menu tab. Take a few minutes to explore the help resources available on this page. 3. From the help index on the left side of the page, select the topic link ‘Help In A Webfolio’. Click on the ‘here’ link in the page, to open the webfolio example. 4.

Take a few minutes to explore the content of this Webfolio. Read the section on ‘Defining ePortfolio and PebblePad’.

5.

Close the Webfolio and return to the Pebble+ Help page and ECU Help menu.

6. Select the link to Videos from the ECU help index on the left side (not the Videos tab across the top of the page). Select and watch the ‘Completing a Workbook’ video. 7. Close the video and Help page, and return to the PebblePad home page.

Task 3 Use a Workbook 1. Go to your Tools & Resources menu. Click on “Resource Centre” from the menu.

2. You will now see the screen below. Click on the ‘For Me’ button.

3. Select the relevant workbook for the unit from the list on the For Me menu. It is likely that you will only have one workbook, rather than the many files on the picture below. Click on the file and it will automatically highlight, then select ‘Use’ or double click.

Your lecturer has made the resource autosubmit, which means that as soon as you click ‘continue’, it will be submitted to the lecturer’s workspace. You will have continued access to the workbook, and the lecturer will be able to see your progress on this task. Click on “Continue’ and the workbook resource will become available to you.

5. Enter the information as requested by the workbook fields and options. 6. As with any other asset the banner at the top of the screen can be changed by clicking and dragging the original banner left and right. Tip: Add your own banners and backgrounds by using the Customise Banners and Customise Appearance options under the Tools and Resources menu.

Fig 3.5 Filling in a Workbook 7. Save the work in your workbook by clicking on the floppy disk icon on the top right hand of the menu of the Workbook window.

8. You will get a message that your workbook asset has been successfully submitted to the unit workspace. Note that you will be able to come back to the workbook and update it at any time, and every time you save an update, the submitted asset will be updated automatically.

9. Find the filled in workbook in the Asset Store (Step 1: click the icon at the top of your pebble window or select Asset Store from the View menu.) Then highlight the relevant asset with your mouse [Step 2]. And finally, hit ‘Edit’ on the toolbar [Step 3] which will display at the bottom of the Available Assets Window. Follow this sequence whenever you want to continue completing your workbook. Remember that your workbook is now under the square window (Asset Store), not in the resource centre.

Notes: When you go through this sequence the first time, you will notice a mail icon pop up on the bottom left hand of your pebble screen. When you click on the submission message, it will take you to your Message Centre in pebble, and will indicate that your submission to the unit workspace has been accepted.

Task 4 Print the Workbook Asset 1. The PebblePad print tool creates a PDF file for you to print or save. Click on the Do More Button in the top left corner of the Workbook Asset panel, and select the Print option.

2. PebblePad will briefly analyse the asset and generate a preview. From the displayed options panel, select only ‘Use Page Breaks’. This will place each template of the workbook on a separate printed page.

3. Select the ‘Download printable PDF’ button to save the file to your computer. 4. Open the saved file and select the preferred print options to print your workbook asset
