COURSE ASSESSMENT There are two assessment items for this course. Both assessment items are weighted 50%. Assessment 1: Virtual Forensic Case Report • Weighting: 50% • Due Date: Friday Week 8 (11th September) at 11:59PM Task Description: For this assessment item students are expected to prepare and record a PowerPoint presentation on one of four cases. The scenario booklet is provided on blackboard under “Assessment”. The presentation should involve the use and application of scholarly literature to address the task set out at the bottom of each scenario. Students are expected to include 10 academic sources in their presentation to support their arguments. The presentation is an external one, students will record the presentation using Microsoft PowerPoint (Office 365 is available to all enrolled students at QUT). I have provided very specific instructions on how to record and make PowerPoint slides under “Assessment” on blackboard. We also expect students to submit a PDF copy of their slides with their script attached. Once again, I have provided students with very specific instructions on how to create a PDF file on blackboard. Assessment Item 2: Multiple Choice Examination • Weighting: 50% • Due Date: Central Examinations

Task Description: Students will respond to 60 multiple choice questions. Questions for this exam are drawn from the required textbook and lecture material. We will not examine students on the ‘boxes’ included in the textbook, unless advised. This year, to better prepare students for the exam, I have introduced practice multiple choice questions at the end of each week of content on blackboard. This will allow students to monitor their understanding of content on a weekly basis.

Below is an excerpt of a crime. We would like you to discuss in your tutorial groups, what tasks might a forensic psychologist undertake when involved with such a case. (Hint: think about the different phases of the criminal justice system from the Week 1 Lecture). Space is provided below to provide your response “The police report is titled “Eighteen-year-old slain by husband after giving birth.” As you continue reading, you learn that the young women was brainwashed by a strange blood-drinking cult who call themselves a “family,” though none of the members were actually related. The young woman’s husband was much older than she and had a history of violence. In fact, you learn that her husband used to stalk her prior to their marriage, watching her secretly from the woods near her home and climbing into an unsecured window at night to watch her sleep without her knowledge. Once the young women, then seventeen, was initiated into a relationship with the man and his “family,” she was encouraged to marry right after her high school graduation. The young women reportedly had bruises all over her body after returning from her honeymoon, where she also reportedly become pregnant. Her husband was not happy about the pregnancy and wanted her to have an abortion. She refused, eventually leading to him ripping the child from her womb, then, draining her of blood until she finally stopped breathing.” Hill (2009, 177) ______________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________
