Description

Peer Evaluation Guidance This guidance is the recommended practice in the Adam Smith Business School for educators who wish to include a peer evaluation of group work processes into their course. Peer evaluation is a different type of practice than peer assessment or peer review. The peer evaluation is of group members’ contributions to group tasks. It is not designed to be used for an activity in which students assess or review the academic work of their peers. It is not expected that individual student grades will be automatically adjusted as a result of this peer evaluation, but that grades will only be adjusted up or down after an investigation by the Course Co-ordinator. Course Co-ordinators should consider the evaluations as part of an examination of all of the evidence submitted by students, including interviews with some or all group members if needed. This guidance can be used in conjunction with other Adam Smith Business School group work resources which can be found in the Learning and Teaching Support Moodle Course. It includes:   

Instructions for students about how to complete a peer evaluation A peer evaluation template A self-assessment template

How to complete the peer evaluation form 1. Give each team member a score of between 1-4 2. If you are giving a score of 1 or 2, you also need to decide what percentage contribution they made to the group. 3. If you give a score of 1, 2, or 4: you must also write a brief sentence or two to explain why you have given this score. 4. In case the score is 1 or 2 then you should also comment on whether enough effort was in place to give the individual enough opportunity and notice to contribute. 5. The attached Statement of Individual Contribution should also be filled out and sent as part of your group report. Students can see their peer evaluation scores on request to the course co-ordinator.

How will grades be allocated?  

Each group will be given a joint grade for their group project. If you receive a score of 3 from each of your group, you will receive this grade.

 

Based on the distribution of scores, your final score may go up or down The decision about whether or not to adjust marks up or down is not automatic. It will be made by the course co-ordinator. It will be based on an examination of all of the documentation submitted and, where needed, a further discussion with some or all group members.

If you have any concerns about group performance or contribution, it is best to address this by contacting your course convenor as early as possible and not leaving it until this final peer evaluation.
