Population growth significantly affects water demand, espescially domestic demand which includes the water in private building for drinking, bathing, gardening, sanitary purpose, etc. Langensari Reservoir serves as flood control and water conduit from Belik River. Pollution of Langensari Reservoir due to polluted water supply from Belik River acts as a disturbance for its functional role as a reservoir which supplies water for its surrounding settlements.This paper analyze water quality of Langensai Reservoir for major parameters that suitable on water quality criteria and standards. Also, this study assessed approiate methods for water purification that based on water quality condition in Langensari Reservoir. Thus, appropriate methods are needed to purify the water quality of Langensari Reservoir. Photocatalys is an appropriate method for water purification. The principles of photocatalysis using semiconductor material, such as TiO2, ZnCr2S4 which is oxidated by UV irradiation. The process converts polutant into more eco-friendly chemical compounds. Another method is biosand filter. Its principal including filter water with a concrete plastic container filled with specially selected and prepared sand and gravel to remove pathogens, iron, turbidity, and manganese from drinking water. The methods are easy to produce and to use, inexpensive, and without risks for the environment or humans.. Based on water quality analysists on 2016, Langensari Reservoir contains high level of major ions. Thus, semiconductor photocatalyst and biosand filter are conducted to purify water quality of Langensari Reservoir so that it can serve as sustainable water treatment. Key Words : domestic water demand, photocatalysis, water quality, Langensari Reservoir, biosand filter 1. LATAR BELAKANG Air bersih merupakan salah satu sumberdaya yang penting bagi manusia. Semakin bertambahnya penduduk menjadikan kebutuhan akan air bersih juga semakin meningkat, baik untuk konsumsi maupun non konsumsi. Semakin berkembangnya pembangunan menjadikan banyak kegiatan yang berdampak pada kerusakan lingkungan, seperti pada kualitas air yang semakin menurun, baik pada air permukaan maupun pada airtanah. Pencemaran air permukaan terjadi karena pengaruh aktivitas masyarakat yang tinggal di sempadan sungai seperti pembuangan limbah domestik ke dalam sungai. Kondisi tersebut tentunya memicu air mengalami pencemaran dan menurunkan kualitas air, sehingga kebutuhan air masyarakat tidak dapat terpenuhi lagi dari sungai. Pencemaran airtanah dapat berasal dari pembuatan septic tank yang terlalu dekat dengan sumur akibat lingkungan yang padat penduduk. Bakteri...
