***************************************************************************************** Assignment Case Study Priya, a 24 year old student studying Business, had been experiencing some discomfort after eating meals. Over the last month this has been getting worse. Two weeks ago after eating a cheeseburger and a strawberry milkshake, she spent most of the night in pain. She had abdominal cramps, diarrhoea, bloating and some flatulence. The next day Priya went to see her GP. The GP asked Priya a set of questions and noted that Priya may benefit from keeping a food diary and noting when her symptoms occur. After keeping a food diary for two weeks Priya went back to the GP, and it appeared that her symptoms seemed to occur within a few hours of her consuming her favourite drink of a strawberry milkshake and other dairy products e.g cheese. It became apparent on days where Priya had not used at home or consumed much milk or cheese that her symptoms did not present. Priya, was invited to spend a few hours at a clinical laboratory where she was given a high lactose milk drink after fasting for two hours prior. On being given the drink her blood glucose levels where measured at regular intervals over a two hour period. It was noted that during this time Priya’s blood glucose levels did not rise which suggested she was lactose intolerant. In light of this observation the GP diagnosed Priya with lactose intolerance.

Assignment task Given the case study presented you will need to research lactose intolerance as a nutritional metabolic disorder. In your research you need to refer to academic literature which you should cite and reference in accord with Harvard Referencing guidelines in text, and in your reference list. You should then write a 1000 word report where you consider giving an overview of lactose and lactose intolerance and suggest practical treatment recommendations.

You may use a sub-headed format if you wish. You will need to use appropriate textbooks and journal articles and governmental reports these should be fully referenced throughout in accord with the Harvard Referencing system (in-text referencing and a reference list). Avoid using web pages, where used they should be academic sites, and they should certainly not contribute to no more than 15% of all references. Avoid plagiarism, do not copy verbatim, quoting should not be necessary, make sure that all words are your own. You need to submit your report via grademark using Turnitin UK. The deadline for submission is 2pm on Friday 16th March 2018.
