1. I truly was unaware of how much plastic I was using every day. I believed I was using a lot less plastic than I really am. Even when I think I am conserving my plastic usage and not using it a lot, this is not the case. I thought by using a large 5-gallon jug of water with a dispensing machine I was being cautious and more environmentally friendly. However, I am still using a large plastic jug every week. A lot of the plastic I use is recyclable such as the coffee container and creamer, sprite bottle, and some packaging. However, some are not such as the plastic holding my spinach and cheese and my hairclips. 2. I am very concerned with plastic usage in the US. I am often the one to remind my roommates to recycle instead of merely throwing away their plastic. I think it is extremely important to not add to the environmental problems associated with plastic and its inability to be decomposed into our environment. In AP Environmental Science in high school, I learned about the large pile of trash sitting in the ocean, and ever since then I have been conscious of how much plastic I consume on a daily basis. I believe plastic can be considered a hyperoject in our society because I do not think people understand how much plastic being thrown out at numbers too large for human comprehension. 3. Plastic use is slow violence because it was not sudden. This buildup was slow growing and has accumulated over decades. This is slow violence of our enviornment, ecosystems, and is contributing to the harsh realities our planet is succumbing to. 4. Instead of using the water jug and machine that are made of plastic, I could use the water from my fridge and use a filtered water bottle to make it better for consumption. This exchange would not be difficult, just not ideal considering I don’t love the taste of

the water from my fridge. For society, this would help lessen the amount of plastic in landfills each week. Over time, I believe plastic will always be present, but hopefully less than it is right now. I hope that reusable bottles and containers will be more widespread throughout our nation and planet in years to come....
