Activity Description
-Ask kids to break into teams of two -Explain that they will jump into 2 hula hoops -Kids will pick whatever 2 hula hoops they want -Student #1 in the group will jump into one hula hoop and then jump into the second. -Student #2 will then see the two numbers inside the two hula hoops and add those numbers together. -Both students will then pick up the large number with the answer of their addition equation on it -Teacher will then assess answers and address questions
Open-Ended Questions to Facilitate Learning (at least 3)
1. How many different answers could we have, still only jumping in two hula hoops at the same time? 2. What would happen if we added another hula hoop with a 6 in it? 3. What would happen if we took out the hula hoop with the number 5 in it?

Have the students compare their addition equations to the other students addition equations.
