Description of Skill This is the act of caring for a deceased client. This includes performing various acts to cleanse the client's body while maintaining the client's wishes in a culturally cognitive aspect.

Indications This type of care is only performed after the client has been pronounced deceased by the healthcare provider. This type of care includes many federal and state regulations to be followed with how the body is cared for and must align with family wishes for how the body is cared for.

Outcomes/Evaluation The client's wishes are followed after their passing. The family has ample time to view the body and also participate in the cleaning of the client. The documentation is completed as well as the transportation and consents are signed.

Potential Complications Disrupted grieving process for family members, complications with the transport of the clients body. Conflict between the client's verbalized wishes and the client's family wishes.

CONSIDERATIONS

Nursing Interventions (pre, intra, post) Pre: Preparations for a client to pass away include knowing family wishes and the client's wishes. Intra:Documentation of the death, request for organ and tissue donation, request for an autopsy and consent. Post: Transportation of the body to the mortuary or secondary care facility.

Client Education Educate the client on their rights with their loved one and what needs to happen following the death of the client.

Nursing Interventions Documentation of the death, Care for the body and performing the respective cleaning. Arranging transportation of the body to the funeral service. Obtaining consent for an autopsy if necessary.
