Maternity: Prenatal Self-Debriefing Questions https://de.ryerson.ca/games/nursing/maternity/prenatal/game/#/

Madison Fraser (Maddy) is a 21 year-old-female who has moved back home to Toronto from Vancouver. She had been feeling tired and was urinating frequently. She had a positive pregnancy test result after seeing a doctor in a walk-in clinic. As you met Maddy, she was having her first prenatal appointment. Before meeting the nurse practitioner Sue Huang, she is assessed by you her nurse. The goal of the simulation game is to reach the end of the story by answering as few questions as possible. If you answered all questions correctly, you would reach the end of the game after answering 12–13 questions. If you had a summary score of 13 or more questions, you are able to play the game multiple times to improve your score. Reflecting on this virtual gaming simulation, the following questions are related to your experience while engaging in the simulation. There are 9 questions. It will take you up to 60 minutes to complete the questions. We encourage you to use your simulation summary report to support your reflection. These questions will guide you through a facilitated reflection on your virtual gaming simulation experience. The questions will help you express your reactions, analyse issues, reflect on your performance, and make connections to future clinical practice. 1. What are your thoughts and feelings while playing the prenatal virtual game? I was a little unsecure because I did not know what to expect from the case scenario. 2. Did you play the game more than once and if you did, how was this helpful to you? Yes, I did play it twice. The second time, I took my time to practice counting the fetal heart rate. It was helpful. 3. How did you feel in the role of the nurse Georgia Graham during this simulation? I did not feel that I was the nurse. I do not have that tone of voice and the professionalism to answer in the way nurse Graham did it. 4. Share what you learned in relation to establishing a therapeutic nurse client relationship with Maddy. I learned that I have to neutral (not judgements), and at the same time, I have to show empathy to the patient. 5. Not everyone works their way through this scenario perfectly. What can you take away from the incorrect decisions/responses you may have made? I must integrate the theory, and the physical assessment to determine what are the normal signs and symptoms according to the pregnant development. 6. As you worked your way through this simulation, did you find yourself going to other sources to learn more about prenatal health? If you did go to others sources, what types of things did you review to help increase your knowledge? I reviewed the ten modules of prenatal Nursing care before starting this game, and I doble check the fundal height.

7. In summary, the learning outcomes were:

Apply knowledge of physical and psychosocial prenatal nursing assessment. Identify normal findings, abnormal variations, and potential complications during a prenatal visit. • Demonstrate therapeutic interventions when caring for a pregnant woman. What were your key learning points? First, identify patient’s vulnerability, and show her empathy and support to get more information and create the best care plan for the patient. Before getting conclusions, I have to ask and assess the patient to explain her what a normal finding is according to the gestational development. • •

8. If a similar situation arose in the future, what will you take away from this simulation to incorporate into your clinical practice? Improve my communication. I would be prepared to provide a patient education-teaching. There is too much information that the patients need to have a healthy pregnancy and reduce their fears. 9. What questions remain unanswered for you in relation to this prenatal nursing simulation scenario? How to determine or calculate how much weigh the patient can gain during pregnancy according to her BMI...
