Presenting on Contemporary Issues in Nursing One contemporary issue in healthcare today One of the contemporary issues in healthcare today is on confidentiality of the information and data of patients in the healthcare facility. Patients and other staff mostly give out their personal and professional knowledge in the healthcare facility as required. Confidentiality may refer to the principle and practice of keeping confidential and professional information private unless the report owner gives permission or there is the necessity of providing the information (Cheng et al., 2019, June). This issue is common today where nurses and other healthcare providers have been seen to dispose of other peoples' exceptionally patient information to others without consent. How Breach of confidentiality impacts nursing practice. The issue is common and may harm the nurses in practice and the facility. Breach of confidentiality can be seen as an illegal act performed. Therefore, those who breach it, mainly the nurses, maybe sued and need to pay compensation to the owners of the information (Seh et al., 2020, June). The act also ruins the healthcare facility's reputation. Patients would not seek services from facilities attributed to breaching the confidentiality of patients' information and other people in the healthcare facility. How healthcare responds to this issue Healthcare tries to respond to this issue somehow as one of the goals is to ensure patients' safety. It also takes an obligation to prevent harm and minimize the damage that could be caused as a breach of confidentiality may cause damage to the owners of the information involved in the issue, who are mostly the patients. It comes up with methods of restricting access to information and making it possible only for authorized persons to access information. It also tries to

encourage the relevant staff to the patient's information to discuss it in private if it is information, for example, how to treat a patient. These acts may reduce the issue of breach of confidentiality. Analyze how cultural, social, or ethical issues impact Breach of confidentiality Confidentiality is well exercised in some cultures where it is unethical to talk about other peoples' behavior, acts, or other things that impact them without their permission. This may positively impact a nurse or healthcare provider who may come from such a culture, and cases of breach of confidentiality may not be familiar or experienced often with them. Breaching the confidentiality of information of any person is an unethical act as it may cause harm to them, damage their reputation, lose their confidence, etc. An ethical staff may not primarily be involved in the issue. The effects of personal values/beliefs/assumptions on a nurse's approach to the issue. The values, beliefs, and assumptions tend to shape a nurse's approach to confidentiality issues. A nurse with excellent and desirable values, ideas, and assumptions would ensure the confidentiality of information of any person in a healthcare facility. Their values would tell them that it is unethical to breach confidentiality, and if they have to do so, it is essential to consult the owner of the information. The nurse will also attempt to influence others to ensure confidentiality as they will be aware of the negative impacts of the breach of privacy. Proposal of the policy statement that supports how breach of confidentiality can be approached in nursing. The policy will focus on ensuring the quality of healthcare to patients. This will require a highly disciplined staff to meet all the needs needed, especially when dealing with patients and other staff information for the issue of confidentiality. The policy may include the punishment for the

parties who breach confidentiality. It may also entail guidelines on handling people's private information in the healthcare facility.
