Priming of Primary (Line A) IV Plumset Equipment         

Volumetric pump Appropriate IV Plumset®/ Administration set IV tubing ‘change due’ label with patient addressograph Completed IV additive label Prescribed solution to be infused Appropriate fluid order chart 10mL Luer lock syringe 10mL ampoule sodium chloride 0.9% Isopropyl alcohol 70% swab (alcohol swab)

Priming Procedure Step 1: Ensure slide clamp and flow regulator are closed Step 2: Insert pin into solution to be infused using a twisting motion Step 3: Hang infusion solution. Do not suspend container directly over pump. *Squeeze drip chamber to half full or to the score mark. Do not completely fill drip chamber* Step 4: Open slide clamp and invert the cassette, inlet down, “Blue to shoe” i.e. the blue inlet is facing towards your shoe. Step 5: Slowly open flow regulator by rotating counter clockwise until a drop of fluid is seen in the pumping chamber Step 6: Turn the cassette upright and prime the remainder of the administration set Step 7: Tap and clear air from remainder of cassette and tubing. Once set fully primed: Push the flow regulator to close. *Confirm there is no flow, if flow is still observed, DO NOT use set*

Loading the cassette Step 1.

Open door latch on pump by lifting up the handle

Step 2.

Hold cassette by finger grip and insert into door guides

Step 3.

Close cassette door

Step 4.

Verify no flow

Step 5.

Insert cassette into door guides

Step 6.

Turn ON using ON / OFF (orange) button Caution: Do not use the pump if it fails the system self-tests.

Step 7.

Set delivery rate and volume to be infused as prescribed

Step 8.

Review pressure settings and adjust as indicated

Step 9. Flush patient IV access with 0.9% sodium chloride 5-10mL to hdhdhfdetermine patency prior to commencing infusion Step 10.

Connect infusion to patient

Step 11.

Start pump

Pressure settings may need adjusting for paediatrics and poor venous flow. Do NOT use a pump that does not belong to your site as it may be configured differently 3 [Level IV]. If gravity flow is required remove the giving set from the pump and adjust the flow rate manually....
