Special Education and Learning Disabilities through Social Science and History

George Jenkins IDS-100 October 10th, 2020

Introduction  This project will explore the topic of special education and learning disabilities through the lenses of social science and history.  I am choosing this project because I am curious learn what kinds of precursors there are both in utero and throughout everyday life, to learning disabilities, and what should be possible to prevent them in the first place.  I am planning to learn through this project more about the everyday difficulties that youngsters and students with learning disabilities face, and how special education causes them to overcome these things.

Learning Disabilities and Special Education through Social Science

 Audio texts, reciprocal teaching and cooperative learning are different methods instituted to help children with learning disabilities better comprehend what they are learning  Some school’s special education departments implement a program called Cognitive Strategies to help students with reading retention.  Students with learning disabilities statistically read at a much lower grade level than the other students.  Students are given certain tools at school, but involvement with parents outside the school has been a known issue.

 In the Social Science lens, there were direct records and perceptions of various instructing strategies and how things improved for students, and teachers' opinion of various techniques had been journaled about after each class.

Learning Disabilities and Special Education through History  The United States voted in 1975, to ensure that all children, regardless of their differences, should have access to free public-school education.  Before the year of 1961, The United States did not publicly teach students with learning disabilities.  The law expects schools to give fitting training to all students in the least restrictive environment possible.  In the History lens, there were various laws and acts that were put into action to make it easier for students with learning disabilities to learn.

Convergence o The similarities between my topic and these

two lenses are beyond each other o Both lenses look at how each other acts in a social media environment

o Both lenses required data to be collected and investigated to grow better answers.

Divergence o The Social Science and Natural History lenses

explore different parts of the problem

o Social Science focuses more on the issues in school age children, where they can see improvement and how to propel that improvement by changing the learning environment where as the social science lens looks at the earlier development of this condition and what factors influence these things. o History focuses more about the past issues about the different ways people have dealt with students with learning disabilities

Both Lenses  Looking at Special Education and Learning Disabilities through both lenses shows an exceptionally clear issue in both our pre-birth care and instructive framework care of youngsters and how that can possibly add to these issues. We can accomplish more to forestall and assist kids with conquering existing issues by helping them further

their learning or adapt in an unexpected way. Nonetheless, from the exploration that was perused it is obvious to me, that change and better preparing and instruction for out moms and teachers on these points will be significant pushing ahead to address these issues.

Further Exploration  To further investigate this subject, I will look for answers to addresses identified with the early development of kids with learning abilities and the hereditary elements and different archetypes that may exist that identify with them.  Are expected mothers more likely to have a child with special needs if they do not take their prenatal?

o Prenatal Factors, Factors in learning disabilities, genetic factors in learning disabilities.  If caught early, could children with learning disabilities learn to function at their normal grade level? o Special education strategies, early childhood development and learning disabilities, special schools, cognitive strategies

Conclusion Through my research about my project I have learned that there are many factors that deal with the development and growth of a baby that can lead to the baby being special needs. Once these kids have been diagnosed and are in school there are a lot of different strategies that can be utilized by them or by their teachers to help them keep track and help them understand at a normal pace level, even though most children with learning disabilities don’t. Going forward I would love to find out how the other lenses are either the same or different when describing special education.
