Martinez 1 Milestone 3 1. Management Functions The functions of management are planning, organizing, staffing, directing, and controlling. Planning in a managerial role is making sure that the company or organizations are met. Under planning categories such as the Mission Statement, objectives, goals, and plans. Organizing is setting up activities and resources in a certain way so that there most effective and less time consuming. Staffing is just hiring people to perform the tasks that help make a business a business. Directing is delegating certain task to certain people so that they can be completed as well as motivating them to finish them. Controlling is when managers evaluate and correct mistakes in order the keep the company and organization on track. For my organization, Slayed by K Cosmetics, a measurable goal is to increase the awareness of my brand by 50% by the end of the first year. This goal would be measured by comparing the sells revenue from when we first opened to the 1 year mark. Although a 50% increase by the 1 year mark seems like a high goal, by having lots of promotions, advertising, and reviews from beauty gurus, we can make it happen. Another goal is to have at least 5-10 new products come out each year. Each new product will the serial number that starts with SBK and then the last 2 digits of the that year (Slayed by K 17). Another goal to by accomplished by in 3 years is to cut cost by at least 2%. This would be measured by keeping an accounting log of how much is spent to make one product from start to finish, this includes packaging. 2. Levels of Management The levels of management are represented by a pyramid. The top of the pyramid represents the top managers such as the president, CEO, and vice presidents. The middle row represents middle management who are directly under to the top managers and essentially act as the eyes and ears of the top managers. They also help apply any rules and regulations that are set forth by top management. The last and final level of management is the first-line management. This level of management directly deals with employees more often than the middle and top management does. This level makes sure that all rules and regulations are being followed. The levels of management that will be used in my company are top management and middle management. I would choose top management because that’s where all the executive decisions would be coming from. A middle management would be used at the warehouse where all the products would be stored and shipped from. First- line managers would only be used if Slayed by K Cosmetics were to open a store front. The job titles for middle management would be Warehouse Manager because this way both employees and other managers are clear on what their role is. 3. Management Skills The skills that managers need are technical expertise, conceptual skills, analytical skills, and human relations skills. Technical expertise is the set of skills and knowledge needed to perform your job. Conceptual Skill is the basically your ability to think outside of the box. Analytical skills are used to identify issues, their importance and how to resolve them. Human relation skills are skills that help you deal with people on the daily
