Description

Group Members: Ricardo Perea Keun Yong, Chon Kyaira Defigueiredo Mark Llamas Narbeh Sepanian Unethical Business Proposal Our project is going to be on Uber and Lyft and the rideshare industry. Some of the actions that could be considered unethical, along with their consequences are: 1. Misclassifying employees as independent contractors a. Drivers are not guaranteed a minimum wage i. Possible for a driver to work all day and not make enough to get by b. Drivers are not eligible for benefits, even if this is their only job 2. Not having strict enough screening policies and allowing people with criminal backgrounds to drive for them a. Creates the potential for dangerous situations for riders 3. Operating at a loss in order to drive other services out of business a. Does not allow new companies to enter the market b. Drives out older companies that followed the laws and paid fees c. Brought in customers until they had a large share of the market, then raised prices when there were no more competitors 4. The driver face coverage gap while they drive around and search for fares a. Lyft sold PPE to their drivers instead of providing it for free 5. Not testing their driverless cars before deploying them in the public a. Resulted in the death of a pedestrian in Arizona

More ethical Business: Green Commuter: vanpool, car sharing and fleet replacement - Minority women owned - Small business - 100% zero emission vehicles - Overall B impact score - “Green is right there in our name, and we also believe in social justice and are committed to keeping costs manageable and EV technology available to people of all income levels.”
