Description

Pseudoscience Activity Graphology is the study of an individual’s handwriting. Its objective is to use the person’s handwriting to study the individual’s personality traits through the interpretation of the 8 different aspects of handwriting.

The earliest known study of graphology came to be in the early 17th century, where a physician named Camillo Baldo wrote a book that was the first book that we know about graphology in Italy. The book was titled “How to Judge the Nature and the Character of a Person from His Letter.” As each person speaks different to each other, each person also has different writing styles and from this a person’s nature can be shown in their writing. The word “Graphology” was first used by Abby Michon of Paris. The word derives from the Greek word “graph” meaning writing and “ology” meaning study. There are eight graphical features that are analysed by graphology. The first is Layout, the page is viewed as an atmosphere whereas the letters that would be written would represent the writer’s personality. This creates an environment where the writers can project his character onto the book whether if its word spacing or line spacing. The Second is the Size of Handwriting, this aspect is the study of the size and width of handwriting. The size represents the self-esteem, self-concept, on how the individual appreciates themselves, and degree of how much they are extroverted or introverted and their levels of self-confidence. The third is basically the shape and structure of the handwriting. It provides an idea of the cultural, emotional and mental capabilities of the person. The fourth is the slant, this represents the one needs for an affectionate bond, need for contact with others and the dependency of other. Inclination to the right symbolizes extroversion, to the left reflects shyness/introversion, vertical represents great self-control and unequal inclination signifies mood swings. The fifth is Baseline, this is when a person’s writing is ascending it mean that it is mostly associated with optimistic people while descending is pessimistic attitude. The sixth is speed in which the writer’s ability to quickly analyse a situation, and adjustment to new scenarios, temper and intellectual levels. The seventh level is the connection forms in between each “letter”. They are either connected, disconnected, grouped or fragmented. The last form, the eight form is pressure, it is the level of intensity a person uses on their pen/pencil during their writing. This represents the energy of the writer, whether if their vitality, their own social securities in which they feel great in their everyday life.
