Self-Esteem and Positive Thinking Worksheet Write a 50- to 75-word response to each of the following questions: 1. After completing the Test Your Self-Esteem Activity in McGraw-Hill Connect®, what does your score say about your level of self-esteem? Is it high or low? Look back at the effects of high and low selfesteem described on p.128 in Ch. 4 of Psychology of Success. Which of the behaviors do you exhibit? Give examples.

After completing the Test Your Self-Esteem Activity I’ve learned that I have low self-esteem. My score is 54. The feedback states that I lack confidence and struggle to acknowledge my accomplishments. As a result, I may be more vulnerable to depression, anxiety, or social phobias. Even though I may feel undeserving and doubt your abilities, I can still empower myself to take control and transform my self-image. Also, I exhibit a passive behavior pattern. I tend to be self-critical an are easily hurt by others and by the words and actions of others. I value the opinion and the judgment of others more than my own. 2. After completing the Social Support and Self-Esteem Activity in McGraw-Hill Connect®, do you feel that you have emotional and instrumental support whenever you need it? Why or why not? If not, what could you do to build your social support network? Review p. 143 in Ch. 4 of Psychology of Success for ideas.

I have a healthy level of social support. I am are receiving emotional and instrumental support from my community. I know I have the trust, love, concern, time, advice, and help to mitigate feelings of loneliness. I feel this support because it is all around me every day with my family and friends. 3. What did completing the Are You a Positive Thinker? Activity in McGraw-Hill Connect® reveal about your ability to think positively? Explain. What can you do to improve your positive thinking? Review p. 189 in Ch. 5 of Psychology of Success for ideas.

The feedback stated that I think positively most of the time, with a score of 19. However, I do permit negative thinking to occasionally emerge when focusing on flaws within myself or problems in the world around me. Thoughts, feelings, and actions go hand in hand, so I can actually control the type of thinker I am. The feedback stated I should consider a flaw I constantly dwell on. Now ask three people I trust their opinion of my flaw. It may surprise me, but they do not view it negatively. I can use their positive comments as the foundation for changing my negative thoughts into positive ones. It does take work, but with a little practice, I can transform myself into a positive thinker. And I need to remember, there is no success without positive thinking.

After completing this week’s activities in McGraw-Hill Connect®, which do you believe is more valuable: self-esteem or self-acceptance? Why? Remember, self-esteem is confidence in and respect for yourself and self-acceptance means recognizing and accepting what is true about yourself.

Self-Acceptance to me is more valuable because if I don’t believe in myself, knowing my strengths and weaknesses, I cannot have self-esteem or be a positive thinker. When we begin to accept who we are, we set ourselves up for improvement. While practicing self-acceptance, you will uncover hidden gifts and talents that you didn't know about yourself (Berman, 2018).
