Critical Thinking Reflection

College of Business, Grand Canyon University PHI-105: Course Title December 6, 2020

2 Critical Thinking Reflection Aristotle once said, "It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it." (Aristotle 1) Critical thinking is the thoughtful process to be able to form, apply, examine, evaluate, and reflect your thoughts or ideas. Developing critical thinking skills can only enhance learning strategies. Three skills that are needed to work through the critical thinking process are to question assumptions, creativity, and having a solid debate. Questioning assumption is an important skill to apply to your critical thinking. There is a balance to questioning assumption and one of the first thing to do is to figure out when it is the time to ask questions or when to consider alternatives. (Bouygues, 2019) Ways to do this would be to brainstorm with others who may think differently than you, which can help you question the ideas. This tactic will also help alternatives ideas to blossom. Appling creativity skills to critical thinking can help form your idea. It can take your idea and redefine existing information, go in a new direction, and to be able to develop new approaches. (Ling & Loh, 2020) Creative thinking create ideas to solving problems but when using creative thinking is when new ideas are made to solve existing problems. Furthermore, to be able to learn to be aware that there are many different possibilities for arguments that could either strengthen or weaken your position and to prepared and able to predict what could be opposing ideas in a debate. (Nurakhir, et al., 2020) Having that awareness of the different opposing ideas will help to create a solid idea with a strong supporting evidence. It is key to not get distracted from the idea and to keep your points clear and structured. Questioning, creativity, and debates are all key skills to strengthen creative thinking. Questioning can help to better understand what the solutions are and gain a deeper understanding of what matters. Creativity brings new light and unlimited possibilities to old ideas. Finally,

3 being able to support your theory with confidence and a strong argument in debates creates a solid foundation. These skills help to make critical well-informed decisions based on personal experience, observation, and research.
