What is Psychology?

Psyhcology is a science mind and behavior. It tries to understand, describe, explain, predict, and develop method to control human thinking, feelings, and behaviors. It is a called science because in pursuing the aims of understanding various aspects of human mind psychologists use scientific methods for obtaining answers. The knowledge based of psychology has been expanding since its begining roughly late 19th to early 20th century. It was in 1979 when wundt established first psychology laboratory. Also sigmund Freud who is often considerd as the father of psychology wrote his pioneering work during the same period.

Today the scope of psychology has expanded exponentially. The boundaries of subject mtter of Psychology are expanding and touching upon many different subject areas like philosophy, computer science (e.g. infomation processing model of memory), biology (brain correlates of behavior and emotions), sociology (group dynamics, prejudice, social

psychology). It knowldedge base has expanded both horizontally as well as in depth to such an extent that in may be almost impossible for a single individual to master the whole subject with all its specialized sub-areas like - cognitive psychology, biological psychology, evolutionary psychology, social psychology, clinical psychology, developmental psychology, industrial and organizaitonal psychology, forensic psychology, ...

The typical subjects studied in basic psychology include -
