Format:100 points – may include multiple choice, multiple answer, true & false, matching, & short answer Note: Students may use one side of 3x5 inch piece of paper or notecard– the page MUST BE HANDWRITTEN – cannot be typed and reduced or a copy of another student’s notes sheet. MODULE 1 – Values, Ethics, and Character Why do RCSM service providers study ethics? Ethics directly affects an organizations ability to achieve its mission Define the following terms:  Descriptive belief – measured and determined to be true or false  Evaluative belief - + or – judgement about a characteristic  Prescriptive belief –desirability of some action or means to an end  Proscriptive belief –undesirability of some action or means to an end  Value –things that are preferable to everyone  Instrumental value –means to achieve goals or some end state  Terminal value –goals or some end state  Moral value – fundamental baseline values  Ethics – morals or values a society finds appropriate or desirable  Ethical issue – a problem where someone needs to make the right choice to do the right thing  Ethical dilemma – choice between strongly held principle and non-ethical consideration  Ethical conflict - a problem that involves a choice between two ethically strong principles  Moral sensitivity –how your actions will affect others  Moral callousness – insensitivity about the wellbeing of others What does it mean to say ethical issues come from the interaction of participants and managerial functions? important that the managers always respond to these situations ethically and try to make things right again What is the function of codes of conduct? What people can do and what they cant A struggle between doing one’s duty and being responsible for the consequences….the important thing is to have that debate (with yourself and colleagues) and to ask the right questions: Who benefits? and Who gets hurt? RCSM 315: Leadership & Ethics Final Review Conflict in role definition & job responsibilities – not always wanting to do the job you are given because it doesn’t fit you  Lack of training in ethics / moral reasoning – some people don’t realize what they are doing is wrong because they haven’t been exposed to training in this field  Combination of factors – there can be things that people are going through to push them to not always do what’s right Briefly describe the 5 mind games people play  Quickly simplifying – oversimplifying the problem and picking the quicker solution  Need to be liked – becomes a problem because the individual may ignore ethical transgressions  Diluted and disguised – using euphemisms to reduce the anxiety associated with unethical behavior  Making positive – comparing his or her behavior to worse behavior so it doesn’t seem as bad  Overconfidence – discount the perceptions of other people preferring his own idea over others 

MODULE 2– Conceptualizing Leadership: What is it? According to Jordon (2001), what are the 5 parts of leadership?  Dynamic process  interaction between two or more members of a group  involves recognition and acceptance of leader-follower roles by group members  within a certain situation  activities of the parts of the leader and followers which aid the group in working toward its goals. According to Pierce & Newstrom (2008), what are the 5 component parts of leadership?  Focus of group process  Personality and its effect  Act or behavior  Instrument or goal achievement  Emerging effect or interaction What are the 5 elements of effective leaders? Obtain trust, develop shared vision, adapt to situations, motivate, achieve results What are the 9 types of intelligences? Interpersonal, bodily-kinesthetic, linguistic, intra-personal, natural, spatial, musical, mathematical, existential What are the 5 types of quotients? Intelligence, emotional, creative, adverse, visionary What are the 5 factors in the Model of Personality? Openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, neuroticism MODULE 3 – Leadership Learning & Development Define theory – concepts that project a view of a phenomena Briefly explain the 10 leadership theories: 1. Great Man theory – means that great leaders are born 2. Trait theory of leadership – people are either born or made with certain qualities 3. Skills theory of leadership – practical skills of a leader. People skills etc 4. Style theory of leadership – style of your life that will get people to follow. Be this way and people will follow you 5. Situational Leadership theory – No one size fits all model in leadership. Leader must adapt 6. Contingency theory – there is no single way of leading 7. Transactional theory – humans are seeking to maximize pleasurable experiences 8. Transformational theory – leaders transform their followers by inspiration and charismatic personalities 9. The leader makes it easier and nicer to be a follower What are the 10 points of Pickens Leadership plan? Work ethic, have a plan, look for big things, advice criteria, be prepared, make a choice, embrace change, never cheat, patience, be generous What are the 7 essential qualities of all great leaders? Clear vision, courage, integrity, humility, strategic planner, focus on strengths, accept responsibility List and briefly explain the 3 key aspects of asking better questions. Suspend judgement, reframe thinking, embrace emotion

BONUS – There will not be any bonus questions on the exam. Students may earn up to 7 bonus points by submitting a hard copy of this review sheet with all the questions answered by 9a on test day. Late papers will not be accepted. Papers will not be accepted via blackboard or email. Students may earn up to 3 bonus points by submitting a hard copy of the 3x5 inch piece of paper or notecard prior to leaving the classroom. Late papers/notecards will not be accepted.
