1 Anonymous Dr. Hamzat Koriko Honors 101 September 21, 2019 Reading With Patrick Michelle Kuo’s Reading With Patrick is a story like no other. Kuo explains her life story of helping young troubled students at a school called Stars. She quickly finds one of her students, Patrick Browning, surprisingly unlike no other student. Even so, he always found an interest in school and he stayed true to himself. Unfortunately, Michelle Kuo leaves the Delta temporarily to attend law school in hopes of making her parents proud. However, after hearing Patrick had accidently murdered a man, Kuo pauses her current life to visit Patrick right away. When she arrives, she finds that Patrick is a totally different man than who he was as a student. He couldn’t read properly, and his grammar was as good as an elementary school kids’ grammar. Michelle then becomes conflicted and guilty about her life choices, and she eventually drops everything she does and moves back to the Delta in hopes of creating justice for Patrick. To continue, when all the inmates do get a trial, most of them plead guilty and move on with their lives. When she visits Patrick for the first time, he was shocked. Additionally, he was even more shocked when she came back a second time. Nonetheless, Michelle Kuo continues to help Patrick by assigning him to do homework. During the whole process, she finds injustice in the system when they keep pushing Patrick’s court date back. To continue, when all the inmates do get a trial, most of them plead guilty and move on with their lives, including Patrick. Eventually, Patrick serves his short sentence, and both move begin to move on with their lives. Through thick and thin, Michelle and Patrick form an inseparable bond that will inspire many others in the years to come. Reading With Patrick
