Description

Lozano, Mary Joyce C. Reflection Paper on Jose Rizal: Sa Landas ng Paglaya “Rizal” was a name I heard a lot as a kid. My teacher introduced Jose Rizal as our National Hero when I was in elementary school because he gave his life for our country. We always hear about Rizal Park, also known as Luneta Park or simply Luneta, where most tourists or our family go to have fun and bond with family or friends. We can also see him for 1 peso, which is why Jose Rizal is always remembered. This documentary aims to introduce the accounts and the narrative of the life of our national hero to the Filipinos, most especially to the new generation of Filipinos who are succumbing to technology. In addition, the documentary also aims to answer the question of our past and use it to answer the prevailing challenges that we faced in the present day. Young people in today's society may know the significance of Jose Rizal and his extraordinary heroism. The only thing they know, though, is that he's like one of the other heroes we know who had been killed for their country. In a film titled, JOSÉ RIZAL: Sa Landas ng Paglaya, a short film that is commissioned by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines, they made this film as an introduction or refresher to us, millennials, about Rizal and his life and works. The film shows how Jose Rizal starts a revolution using poetry. Some of the historians would say that Filipinos can’t or didn’t read the 2 famous books of Rizal the Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo because it was written in Spanish. In the movie, you will also know that Paciano Rizal is one of the reasons behind Rizal heroism that we don’t usually give credit, and now we know the reason why Rizal go to a different country because of threat to him, but we realize that Rizal is finding a way to keep going back to the Philippines even though he was sure that he will get killed. And keep fighting by waking up the mind of people and taunting the Spaniards till his death. If you will ask what’s my stand, I can say that I have a similar idea, or I could be a martyr for this country, when I was young I want to be the police but somehow I realized that there is better way than being police, like studying and sharing my ideologies that can help being united to prove that in case of war I can join and fight for our country, but like what Rizal did, he made us realize that not everything can be resolve thru gun and blood, we can use our ideas, and actions or talents to help each other to fight against or stop those people who want to conquer our country.

In the last part, because of the video or short film, we realized or know that Rizal was not the only one who revolt against Spaniards, he was supported by his family, Rizal acted as a sign or text that everyone can be read so Filipinos can be awake and realized that we can protect and fight for our country, and lastly, I realized that Rizal’s sacrifice is not just making poetry for fighting, he makes too many sacrifices just to reclaim and fight for the country. Overall, there is a big contribution on how the documentary creatively narrates, analyze, and interpreted the literary works and letters of Rizal to show how he is not just simply a hero to all Filipinos, but also a kind person to individuals he helped, a good son and brother to his family, and a brilliant student of his time. Jose Rizal lived his life to the fullest by sacrificing his life to drive change and goodness in everyone around him. In addition, it is also recommended for young people to watch this documentary, especially in our time now where fake news at misleading historical information is everywhere....
