Percy Jackson represents the modern hero because he fulfills every aspect of what we think a hero is. He is intelligent, kind, strong, confident, brave, and clever. He portrays all of these characteristics through his many adventures. His values do not differ completely from Hercules, Achilles, Hector considering they all thrived to achieve honor and fame, in one way or another. Hercules, Achilles, and Hector all fight to fight, while Percy is put in positions where he needs to defend himself, rather than instigating a fight.

Modern writers and artists still find value in retelling or reusing the myths of Hercules and other ancient myths for a few reasons. In almost all ancient myths, there is a lesson being told whether it’s about the story as a whole or the character specifically. The artistic value within an ancient myth is never ending. There is always something new that can be portrayed, as well the technique being used. Some ancient myths can be applied to what is going on in the world today and can be retold so that we don’t make the same mistakes again....
