Review of Ghosts by Edwidge Danticat The story “Ghosts” by Danticat(2008), is about a young man who was trying to make a change living in the low income neighborhood of Haiti.According to Danticat, “Pascal Dorien was living in Bel Air—the Baghdad of Haiti, some people called it, but that would be Cité Pendue, an even more destitute and brutal neighborhood”(Danticat,2008,para.1) Although it was not a happy story, it showed how friendship is everywhere and not bound by status. First, Danticat showed friendship is everywhere and not bound by status by telling the story of the young man’s friend, who came from a different background and neighborhood, that lost his job while standing up for his friend. (Danticat, 2008, para. 15). Second,Danticat showed friendship is everywhere and not bound by status by the story of a gang leader, who tried to avenge the young man when his idea was stolen by a TV station he works at, in a way he knows how. (Danticat, 2008, para. 21). Finally, Danticat stated friendship is everywhere and not bound by status “Don’t worry,” he added to Pascal, but also, it seemed, to himself. “As long as I’m here, nothing will happen to us tonight.” (Danticat, 2008, para. 44).
