Description

Dear Sir/Ma, I am writing to apply for the Band 6 Senior Radiographer position as advertised for Royal free London Hospital NHS foundation Trust. I have read the person’s specification and job description and I meet all the specified requirements stated in the job vacancy advert. It is with enthusiasm that I express my interest to continue my career in your trust because it has been my dream to work in an organization where my personal values and commitment align with the values of this trust. The values of your organization are those I adopt and practice on a daily basis, this is because I believe it is key to consistently providing excellent service to my patients. It also helps me build healthy relationships with my patients and colleagues. My desire is to be part of this exceptional team of multidisciplinary professionals to provide high quality, safe and effective care. Joining the team of professionals within your trust, will greatly improve my professional skills and help me gain a different experience from what is obtainable in my immediate environment. It will also provide a platform through which I can contribute my wealth of knowledge to your reputable trust. I am a hardworking and dependable diagnostic Radiographer, very proficient and reliably trained in Nigeria with almost four years working experience combined with radiography student mentorship. I have keen interest in mentoring junior staff and students, this has seen me lecture newly qualified radiographers (interns) on Introduction to Computed Tomography including Physical principles of CT and Radiation protection measures in CT during their compulsory continuous professional development program. Presently, I also supervise and train Radiography students on clinical posting and departmental healthcare support workers. I am fully registered with the Radiographers Registration board of Nigeria (RRBN) as well as the health and care professions council UK (HCPC) with registration number RA085702. I possess a Bachelor of science degree in Radiography and Radiological sciences awarded by University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos state, Nigeria in 2017. In 2019, I did undergo a post graduate certificate (PGC) training in Computed Tomography (CT) organized by the Nigerian Institute of Radiography and have been able to further participate in some update courses on CT as part of continuous professional development program. I have also participated in several short update courses some of which include: Emergency response plan, BLS, Conflict resolution, Incident reporting, Patient’s Rights, Privacy and Confidentiality just to mention a few. All thanks to my keen interest in keeping up-to-date of current and future imaging techniques and hospital practice. Within my years of practice, I have been opportune to work with and operate various imaging modalities such as: Static and Mobile X-ray units, Direct Digital X-ray system, GE OEC image Intensifier, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (1.5 Tesla), Computed Tomography (GE 16 and 64 slice) Optima and lightspeed CT scanners respectively, Siemens Somatome 64 slice CT, GE Bright speed 16 slice, Phillips Brilliance 64 Slice CT Scanner and Toshiba Aquillion 64 slice CT Scanner, and I am enthusiastic to explore other models. I demonstrate good knowledge and experience in diverse range of radiographic techniques and procedures actively undertaking general X-ray and specialised imaging techniques such as:

1. CT scan procedures including CT angiograms (Coronary, Cardiac, Pulmonary, renal, Carotid and Circle of Willis, and Peripheral Angiograms), Brain, Chest, Abdomen & Pelvic CT scans, CT scan Trauma A&E, CT Urogram, Colorectal scans, CT Guided Biopsy, Pediatric CT scan and Musculoskeletal CT scan. 2. Fluoroscopic investigations such as intravenous Urography, Hysterosalpingography, Barium studies 3. Conventional x-ray examinations (skull, sinuses, upper and lower extremities, abdomen and pelvis e.t.c 4. I have experience in interventional radiography procedures for example, Cathlab, Percutaneous needle CT biopsy, uterine artery embolization under image intensification and Lithotripsy in our urology suite. I am also able to effectively provide Radiological services in all units of the Hospital such as theatre, wards, in-patient and out-patient clinic, accident and emergency unit, intensive care unit, Pediatrics and special care baby units. I am highly motivated and compassionate when it comes to Radiography practice and over the years, I have been able to develop the ability to apply cognitive reasoning in learning, evaluation and application of acquired knowledge appropriately most especially in decision making process such as deciding the best protocol to adopt for my patients, the appropriate projections and when to modify techniques to suit patient’s condition. As a practicing Radiographer who is very much dedicated to his job, I am aware of the basic safety challenges of working in the Hospital. However, my knowledge of infection control practices and fire safety will go a long way in preventing any form of evitable incidence. I also believe the training organized by your trust will go a long way in preventing any disregard of safety rules and guidelines. I am well aware of and adhere to the regulations on the use of x-ray as contained in the ionizing Radiation (medical exposure) regulations 2017 (IRMER17) and ionizing Radiation Regulations 2017 (IRR17). My experience performing Quality Assurance tests helps me ascertain that the equipments are safe for use. I am capable of working independently and effectively organizing and prioritizing demands for radiology services under pressure. I make prompt clinical decisions and work as part of a Radiology team dedicated to providing quality diagnostic services to meet the demands of a busy imaging department with minimal patient waiting time. My professional skills, experiences and character give me the enablement to handle patients as well as offer mental and emotional support to diverse range of patient presentations/groups. I have developed certain skills that will enable me provide better services to my patients some of which are explained in the following paragraphs: Firstly, I have basic computer skills and experience using PACS and RIS which helps me maintain accurate patient records by inputting accurate information to reflect the services provided, post processing and upload of images onto PACS. This is important because of its significance with respect to good service management and patient care. My belief that no man is an island of knowledge has made me a good team player who is always willing to take direction/learn from more experienced colleagues, open to criticism, and sharing ideas to

help achieve a common goal. I am reflective and welcoming to acquire more knowledge, learn new skills, work ethics and adapt with current radiological practice. I understand that the most difficult resource to manage is human resource, hence I have developed great tolerance for a wide range of patients and colleagues because I know disagreements are inevitable. In my practice I have always put my patient’s care and safety first while maintaining a disposition of calmness, openness, empathy and tact that makes my patients and their relatives or carers feel at ease and addresses whatever anxiety they might have. This enables me attend to the most- distressed and emotionally sensitive of patients. In discharging my duties, I also consider patient's fitness, clinical information and adjust techniques where necessary to suit patient's condition. By virtue of numerous trainings I have taken on radiation protection especially in CT, I demonstrate a sound understanding of radiation protection methods and legislation for patients and staff and I am well aware of the short and long-term biological effects of radiation, therefore, I always ensure that the Radiological examinations are justified, adhering to ALARA (As low as reasonably achievable) principle and ensuring that all safety measures are in place to prevent accidental exposure to staffs or patients. I am competent in securing IV access, administering contrast agents for patients requiring contrast media during their investigations, whilst being aware of the side effects of contrast media and the ability to provide first hand care in the event of anaphylactoid reactions. I show professionalism in all I do and this is reflected in my dressing and the way I carry and present myself. Effective communication is one of my prized attributes as it not only helps in getting patient's corporation but it also makes me a great team player, working in harmony with other team members to ensure that our patients get the best service possible. I am goal-oriented and flexible; ever ready to work out of hours, across different sites when necessary to get the job done and make show there are no lapses. ETHICAL STANDARDS: I am aware and will comply with all standards of conduct and care that relates to the NHS Trust and departmental policies, especially in the following legislation: 1. The health and safety at work act, including COSHH and manual handling regulations 2. The ionizing Radiation Regulation 2017 (IRR17), Ionising Radiation (medical exposure) regulations 2017 (IRMER17), Local radiation rules. 3. Confidentiality of patient records including the Data protection Act. 4. HCPC Professional Code of Conduct and Guidance. I strongly believe that I am the ideal person for this position which has been proven, not only by my technical skills but also, in how my experience over the years have coincided with the values of this trust. I look forward to hearing from you soon in regards to the interview notice. Given the opportunity, I hold no doubt whatsoever that I am going to excel at the job and ultimately be an upstanding representative of both the Royal Free London Trust and the radiography profession.

Thank you....
