Description

IELTS writing task 2- class feedback rubrics (intermediate) Evaluation mark terms Task response Coherence and cohesion Lexical resource Grammatical range and accuracy Good -Presents a clear position in the writings. Examples support the idea and it is fairly easy to link them to the real world cases, though some may need more specificity. -Point of argument is almost precise. - Fairly strong ability in using linking words. -Each paragraph develops one idea logically. -Has good control over organizational features. - The contextual vocabulary (appropriate jargon) is used adequately to convey exact meaning. -There is Consistency in use of lexical items (formal/informal) -The writer uses phrasal verbs and less common vocabulary fairly successfully. -Spelling is frequently correct. - uses grammar effectively to combine ideas. -Writes majorly error free and uses various complex structures. - A few errors with complex structures may exist but they rarely affect the message. -Punctuation is accurate. Acceptable (needs some amendment) -ideas are relevant and logically developed to some extent. Ideas in individual paragraphs are fairly connected though some may need more/less elaboration. -student's standpoint is relevant although conclusion may not be based on ideas. Introduction may also be confusing or not reporting what the writing is specifically about. -linking words inside a paragraph may be faulty or repetitive, but those used for linking paragraphs are acceptable. -Connecting ideas and making references to previous information are frequently ok. -Range of vocabulary seems adequate for the task but use of phrasal verbs and idiomatic language is limited. -Prepositions for verbs may be faulty but they do not affect overall message. -Spelling is relatively correct but some errors persist. -the sentences are fairly error free and the errors do not damage the meaning. -complex structures are used but they may be mechanical and are not idea driven i.e. not used to combine ideas -Punctuation is not consistent but it does not affect meaning. Poor (needs more practice) - The writing contains some main ideas but paragraphing is faulty and not logical -support for ideas is too general and may not be linked to real life cases. -Some examples are presented as support though they may not be tangible or consistent with the main idea. -Ideas are developed in a way that are understandable to some extent but details lack focus and may be interpreted differently from person to person. -Linking words are used limitedly and ideas are not often logically connected. -Meaning is conveyed only generally. Giving to the point messages is often faulty -Spelling or word formation causes some difficulty for the reader. -Uses limited range of structural items. -Complex structure is rare and might contain serious errors. -Uses punctuation though not frequently accurately. Dear teacher, This rubric is designed for intermediate IELTS classes (band score 5-6.5) based on band descriptors for WT2. You may use it for giving feedback to class activities and guide students towards what they need to work on for achieving a higher score. Your written feedback should contain phrases from this table to indicate where your students are and what they need to work on to achieve a higher score. You may as well use the evaluation mark terms as signature when you correct papers. Please note that this rubric does not dismiss the use of band descriptors in any activity, actually it should be used alongside this rubric to give a more comprehensive picture of students' performance....
