Sepak Takraw – Malay woed Sipa, which means “to kick” and “takraw” means ball. BASIC SKILLS Inside Kick Regarded as the most common and basic kick in sepak takraw, the inside kick is used for controlling the ball. This is done with the inside of the foot, as its name implies. Stand with your feet apart, and bend yoursupportingleg a little. Hit the ball with inside of your other foot. Outside Kick Not very commonly used, the outside kick is a defensive kick that propels the ball upwards. To excute an outside kick, the outside of your foot must make contact with the ball as your knee bends inwards. The entire kicking leg should make a right angle at the knee, with the calf and foot pointing outwards. Knee Kick The knee kick actually utilises the thigh – the ball is hit with the part of the light is just above your knee. The stance is reminiscent of marching, but your kness would have to be raised as high as possible. This kick is usually done by players receiving a serve. Header Not unlike a football header, a header spike in sepak takraw involves the ue of the forehead to make the ball fly, especially when it’s too high in the air for your kick to reach it. This technique is used for both seving and striking.

Horse Kick Serve Is difficult to accomploish, and require a high level of skill and flexibility. The horse kick actually refers to ahigh kick; kick as high as you need the ball to go, and using your foot, hit the ball backwards over your shoulder or head. Sunback Spike Is a similar to the horse kick, but done in a jump. To master this, take off on one leg and kick the other up (a scissor kick) while still in the air. Before finishing the jump-kick, hit the ball over your shoulder or head with your other leg. Roll Spike A simple roll spike refers to jumping on one leg and flipping in the direction that you want your ball to move, all while remaining airbone. Using the other foot, kick the ball over your opposite shoulder. You should perform the entire spike while still in the air, only landing after you have made contract with the ball. Key Players Tekong The main purpose of Tekong’s role is to serve the ball. Ideally, he will send the ball across the net with great speed making it hard for the opponet to defend. The Tekong can laso surprise opponents by serving over a drop ball. Killer Also called the Striker, his goal is to execute volleys into the opponent’s court. Whennot in possession of the ball, the Killer will be responsible for blocking any incoming spikes. Feeder Has the most control over the ball in the game. When in possession of the ball, they will set the ball to the preference of their strikers. Their toss also determines if the strikers can perform a clean strike. However, the feeder too should be also to spike the ball. This role is usually reserved for the most agile and responsive of the team.

Flip a coin The teams captains call it. Whoever calls correctly gets to choose to go first called (“choosing service”) or choose the side they wish to be on called (“choosing side”). 2. Serve the ball The designated team serves first. At the start of the match, the Feeder and the Striker stand in the quarter circle. Either the Feeder or the Striker tosses the ball to the Tekong to start the match. He then kicks the ball up and over the net with the foot not in the serving circle.  

The other team can be anywhere in their court. The serving team gets a point if the ball touches the net lands in the court. The team continues to serve each time they are awarded a point. After the initial serve, all players are free to move around court.

3. Pass the ball to the striker To respond to the serve, the defensive team will try to get the ball over the net within 3 touches of the ball. The Tekong and the Feeder both move around the court to pass the ball to the striker with 1-2 touches. The striker will use the final third touch to send the ball over the net.  Players can have more than one touch. 4. Pass the ball to other team using only your feeet and head As play continues, the team cannot use their hands or arms. Each team has 3 touches to send the ball back over the net.  Play continues until a team makes a fault. This occurs when the team doesn’t return the ball over the net within 3 touches, when the ball is not kicked beofre it hits the ground, the net stops it from going to the

other side of the court, or it lands out of bounds. If a fault is made, the other team scores.  When a team wins a point, they get the next serve. 5. Change the side of the court for a new set After one team gets to 21(or 25) points, the set is over. To start a new set, the teams change side of the court. The team that lost the previous set serves. When a team wins two sets,a new match is started. Overall Court Dimensions A sepak takraw court measure 13.4 meters in length x 6.1 meters wide (44 ft. x 20 ft.).

The overall dimensions of a badminton court is 20 feet by 44 feet. The lines along these measurements mark the sidelines for doubles play and long service lines for singles play. The Net Line Marks the middle of the court where the net is placed, creating a 22 feet by 20 feet area oneach side of the net. Short Service Line Is marked 6 feet 6 inches (some are marked 7 feet) from the center line. The area inside the short service line is also called the Non Volley Zone. Center Line Is the line that divides the court from the short Service Line to Back Boundary Line. This delineates the Left from Right Service Court. Side Line for Single Play Is marked 1 ½ feet from the edge of the outer boundary (doubles side line) .

Back Boundary Line and Long Service Line for Singles The back boundary line is the same for singles and doubles play it is the outermost back line on the court....
